Lock-Y-Door https://styyl.de/products/lock-y-do...UA&utm_source=facebook&variant=42522865631445 another clever product from this popular German manufacturer - it's a shame that they don't ship to the UK. There are a lot of door security options listed on the forum but has anyone made a DIY version of this type?

It’s a good idea until your hab door catch fails and your locked out, happened to us in France on an air in Arras, dark, freezing and bags of supermarket shopping.

Luckily I “posted” Bill, a lovely chap we travelled up from Benidorm with, through a side locker and he let us in, we we’re very very grateful I can tell your 👍

My seat belt clips are near the centre of the van: these look to be on the outside of the seats OR on a very long support.

My seat belt clips in on the inboard sides of the seats so not much use to me.
Good point - ours is too! Must work on some though or no point the manufacturer developing a product for this.

I don't understand these?

A smashed window and a pair of bolt croppers. 2-5 seconds for an opportunistic thief looking at stealing the van contents.

Whereas a proper deadlock on the cab doors not only prevents the thief getting in, it makes the vehicle more unattractive as they can't easily resell it.

We have two long metal “bike lock” straps that just meet in the middle and when we have the front seats turned round they go across in between the seats and the dash and one loops through the steering wheel, about twelve quid each from a m/cycle store.

Don't even need croppers, just reach in and press the seat belt release 😊

Agree that deadlocks are the best option - it's just another deterrent that is relatively cheap, transferrable & doesn't involve drilling the bodywork. Better than nothing for those that don't want to make physical changes. We have HEOSafe door locks but not everyone will want to even fit these.

Surely everyone double locks there doors using the remote, so rendering any door unable to be opened from the inside even after the window is smashed?

I always do this along with the dead bolts through B pillar into door frame. If they want to nick what's in the van it will all have to be done through window.

I thought the seat may have been spun round ?

Once you are in you have a multitude of exit points...they are called plastic windows.
Even window locks won't stop a size ten boot breaking the window.

Just break the window then reach in and uncluttered it.
It just prevents the scrotes that pop the locks and try to get in whilst your asleep at night.
If they want to get into your van in the day time when your out ,not much will prevent that ,you just have to make it more difficult and if your side blinds are down they won't know what's keeping the door from opening.

I only have 2 x 10" square plastic windows on the rear doors. One is behind a bolted ladder & can only be opened 1" & the other will be behind a fixed box attached to a type of bike rack ,also bolted on,& might manage 3" opening.Only way in or out would be through broken cab windows.

Mine are also double locked when i am asleep at night , & as the only way out is using the side door .you just have to remember what you did with the keys as they can't be opened from inside when doublelocked, either.

Problem with strapping doors together is it isn't possible in a transit as they have no open door handles ?

Why do people strap their doors closed? I’m not sure I understand it. Isn’t this what locks are for?

If someone really wants to get in, they’ll come through a window.

The doors are the preferred option for a thief as it's quicker and quieter than smashing a window as most thieves want the vehicle intact if it's going to be sold on and not have a gapping hole where window glass should be.
Ducato's, Boxer's, and Relay cab doors are easily opened by punching a hole with a small screwdriver in the right place to open a door.
Transit cab doors are an easy target as well.

So to stop a thief punching a hole and damaging the vehicle you’d need to keep your cab blinds open so the thief can see the straps?

I don't use the seat belt method, to much hassle for me.

You can avoid a screwdriver attack by fitting "Proplates" to cover the vulnerable area around the door handle and fitting deadlock as well as stopping a cab door from being opened, and they will act as a visual deterrent to a would-be thief.
I have fitted both plus the Remis blinds being drawn adds a hassle to entry via the window.
