Hi just been looking at the security thread and was wondering has anyone found an alternative to these window locks that are a bit cheaper, I priced them up and at a tenner each thought they were a bit expensive, also do you have to put one on each lock or just one on each window .

We have one on most windows and two on one.

Only because we have one less window in this motorhome than the last one. ;)

We painted ours with fluorescent yellow paint to make them more noticeable from outside.

Cheaper than getting your valuables pinched, or heaven forbid your pride n joy. Yes we have them fitted to all our windows

I looked around and most locking systems seem much more invasive and a lot more expensive. Just bought another set of these for the new van. Simple fit but I agree they are expensive for what they are but after viewing online how easy it is to break in with a bent bicycle spoke I decided to shell out.
Fitted to handles at the bottom of each window dont bother with the handles at the sides.

I looked at them but in the end considered them of little value in stopping someone breaking in.
I know others will differ.
I went for an alarm system made by Tiiwee instead , reckoning to use this when sleeping mainly.

I did consider the German made security strips which really do the job properly but was put off by the price.

See my thoughts here:-

We have an alarm too, as well “lock-em-out”. They are not mutually exclusive.

We use them (as well as an alarm). The determined thief will get in whatever. However, we figure these may deter the casual thieving scrote (or at least some). The more deterrents you deploy, the more scrotes move on to easier targets, is our theory.

You are quite correct it was a case of where shall I spend my circa £100.
Might get some LemO's as well.

Sadly, If you have "plastic" windows, they just burn round them with a small cheap blowtorch.

Fit a really noisy "screamer" of an alarm. One which needs High quality Ear defenders to prevent hearing damage!. (y)

It doesn’t matter what you do. If thieves are determined enough they will break through anything. All anyone can do is make things as awkward for them as we can in the hope that they will move on.

You can not stop crime but you can displace it to another vehicle or house by taking precautions.
I also have an Elefant 'blocker' on the hab door and proplates on the cab doors.[/QUOTE]

Make sure that the Lock em out lock will fit your particular window catch before you buy them.
I looked at these prior to having a Growler installed and non of them would fit my window locks - both catches and sliding windows.
My Euramobil has Seitz locks but they are different shape/design to what they advertise that their locks will fit onto.

I looked at lock -em-out .but unfortunately they don't manufacture one that fits my windows.Although they were very helpful and supplied various samples for me to try

We have them on every window, very pleased with them

I’ve drilled a fine hole through all 3 layers of the turn-lever and pushed a rivet(unused) through, with a short length of cord so I don’t lose it, on each window lock. You can’t put a screwdriver through the seal to push them out, but as others have said, there are ways to remove the window from its frame if they really want!

I just read that!. Whoever wrote it has studied the "manual", On "How to write a sentence that covers a page". (or 2)!.

And it is a fact, the Guys who fitted it, (our then new door) actually referred to it as "the Drug dealer door". Along with the allegedly "Unpickable" locking system.

All my R-V`s had glass in the windows, Old fashioned style, But with a Glass break detector fitted, any attempt to gain entry in that manner would set the alarm going, and I assure you you did not want to be inside the R-V, without a good pair of ear defenders, I think it was marketed as a "devils wail". As as Police Inspector friend once told me, "Locks only keep honest people out" !!

You'd think he's know better, but then the Police don't investigate burglary these days so understandable? ;)

He should know... Locks also keep opportunist thieves out too. (y)

Based on this thread I ordered a set for each window earlier in the week. They arrived today and I'm very happy with them. Just an extra precaution that may well deter the casual thief.

Aye me too anything to stop the opportunist getting in easily. Make it as hard for them as possible they might just f*%k off somewhere else.
This place costs me a fortune but at least keeps a delivery driver in a job...
