I really don't think folk take too much notice of them anyway. When we stopped off near Luss last year we saw two abandoned tents and beer bottles/cans strewn all over. While I agree folk shouldn't walk away and leave their mess for others to clean, the lack of bins certainly don't help matters. Why is there so few bins in the area, this IMO would be a good starting point in helping to make the area cleaner.

Why sweat the small stuff? I can think of many places nicer than Loch Lomond to go and see, camp in and enjoy.

These bye-laws were introduced to control the great unwashed coming up from Glasgow for the w/e to get torn into the bucky in a different place; nothing else.

Loch Lomond is overrated, overcrowded and has too many tourists, buses and cars.

However, if you do have to go, try the other side, it's much cleaner and quieter, and there's nae Neds!

Its sad that folks in motorhomes are lumped in along with the tenting fraternity.
I live only a couple of miles from Loch Doon & every summer, tents, BBQs, shit & every other type of detritus it left behind the tenting brigade.

Motorhomes on the other hand usually leave no trace that they were ever there.

i complained to the Rangers at one of the "book only " permit locations on Loch Lomond that we had dutifully booked; I complained about the fact that the location that was clearly being used by "people"! as a living area.

There was debris and Rubbish everywhere; part stripped white van, kids bikes and pushchairs strewn over the area. food waste in the hedge row. It was awful.

The ranger was not best pleased with me and he shrugged his shoulders as if to say " what you want me to do"! he took no action. we thought it was too risky to stop over there and we drove away.

I complained to the head office who did nothing except tell me "QUOTE"! The people in the caravan had a permit to be there, even though caravans are not allowed, and it had only been there the one night. they also said that the Ranger was dealing with it.

They only have themselves to blame for crap management of a great idea and and ambitious scheme.

Am I right in saying that years back there was a (proper) "Steamer" on the Loch? . "Maid of the Loch" or some such?

Well that looks a bit better than the 2 shipwrecks we saw in the marina by the wee Island at Balloch we saw last time we were there. Great pics.

Yeah steamer is still there.
