My son came home at about 11pm tonight to tell me that my car had been vandalised whilst parked opposite my house.

A neighbour / passer by must have just caught the end of it as they left me a note on the, broken, windscreen to say it happened at 9:40 and to leave their phone number ( although they only saw two youths run off into the park ).

Fortunately my PVC seems untouched - I have to park my PVC and my car in the street as my driveway entrance is probably too small / tight (for the van) but even if it wasn’t people constantly block it.

I have a proper CCTV system however that is currently faulty and offline so I only have a webcam on my bedroom window ledge so whilst it did catch the attack the footage is useless. In addition my car was parked opposite my van and so my van obscured all but a slice of the roof of my car.

A neighbours car also had its rear window smashed in but they jumped up and down 7 times on my bonnet / windscreen. Local social media also reports several other vehicles damaged on the other side of the park.

My car, the white Peugeot, is only a banger but still - little sh@ts !

Sorry that's such senseless behaviour courses so many problems for you, I hope you can get sorted out, is it possible to widen your drive to get the van in
It looks far to nice to risk it been a target.

We have had a quote for widening our drive way entrance of £3k.

However I am loathe to pay it as we are looking to move in the near future. Plus I have a long ongoing battle to actually keep the access clear. The silver car in the photo below is completely over my drive and official, council installed and paid for by me, dropped kerb and white line.

I know we can report them but when I have tried it in the past I have to advise the council parking and/or police who the car belongs to. Parking is quite tight here so that car could be any one of 30 to 40 houses.

If I can ever get on my drive I am then concerned about getting off. I have signs on the gate etc and on occasions (such as when car had first MOT having been SORN’d on the drive) I have put up special signs saying access required on certain date and certain time.
Made no difference !

I used to just sit there in my car almost touching the blocking car with my hand full on the horn for tens of minutes until someone appeared. However that now just causes me and my wife stress so I’ve stopped it.

I am also loathe to have a major run in with a neighbour as I believe you have to declare such things now when selling your house.

I can’t win as I don’t want an argument over it but if we ever have a buyer come to look a blocked drive could put them off.

Sigh.

Sorry to see that. Complete scrotes!

When that silver car moves away from your drive, put your van in the space & tuck your car behind it. When you go out in the car, put the wheelie bin in the road. Most people can’t be arsed to move a bin to park.

Don’t think that would work I’m afraid.
Moving bins here is no issue to people and that side road is a nightmare for fitting through so I could get stuck in it ( there are two other vans that park in it ). When I leave in the van I go the scenic route as it is much easier and clearer.

I am setting off for a long weekend in the van in a couple of hours so I will be glad to get away from the place.

Your experience unfortunately is part of the malaise that has caused politicians to run riot with our country, "" It's me that matters do not care about you"
I have seen society change to the point that hard won battles of past generations are being eroded, due to this very social breakdown.
GP surgeries being sold to American health insurance companies is but one example, but few see where this is leading! Until one day a letter drops through your door saying , your NHS benefits are these however for an additional £x per month you can get NHS plus service.
Then watch the slippery slope to dissection of the whole service.
Same apathy will prevail, I don't need it why should I care!
Your experience with your car is indeed unsettling and expensive, however bare a thought for 220000 dead in Lebanon and the family destruction.
Not in the media why you ask, well who is fueling the war and who is providing the weapons to the proxy armies?
"Does not effect me why should I care? Ring a bell?

I was woken at 2 a.m. one Saturday by a group of youngsters with cans of booze taking turns to Karate kick and break my car wing mirror.
I phoned the police who said no-one was available but an officer would call to take details. They gave me an incident number. An hour later the scrotes returned and started kicking hell out of the other mirror. I shouted and they ran off. I didn't see any point in phoning the police again. An officer called Sunday afternoon to write down the info I'd already given by phone. Absolute waste of his time.
I didn't claim for the repair cost of £425 as I assumed it would have increased the renewal premiums for all 4 of my policies.
A sad state of affairs. I don't blame the police and accept that they do their best with the resources they have.

Don’t forget this woke society you can’t smack, shout at, reprimand noooo can’t do anything.

Just look for local cctv, find them and kick the sh** out of them.

No respect about anymore in todays society.

The Bobby who called (36 hours after the incident) asked me if I went out and confronted them - Me in my 70's facing 5 boozy lads?

I feel for you OP, good job you didnt tackle them maybe.

Happened to me 15 years ago , I happened to walk round the corner to my house and 3 lads doing exactly the same all down the street.
Knocking off wing mirrors, stamping /running over cars.
I grabbed ths one by his ankle on top of my car, the others ran off, he was probably about 20.
a scuffle ensued, I got him to the floor, he gave me and i gave him a couple of cracks, shouted and the neighbours came out, we held him and called the police.
Easy 15 mins went by, no cops, my neighbour let him stand up and he wriggled free. Cops took stats off us, and one of the neighbours said he thought he knew where he lived.

ANYWAY..long story short, 2 hours later me, my friend, my wife and my 2 kids (5 and 8) we were having a drink in the garden and working out how to get the car fixed etc, police knocked on, arrested me for assault.
deny, deny, deny,...out of police station 4 am. Back next morning to be told charges are being brought by CPS, due to pulling him to the ground from height and assualting him. (section 38 maybe ?? not sure)
I got to court, deny,deny,deny...Well it may go to crown court they said ???? SO !!!! I said if I havent done wrong I havent done wrong...deny deny.
OK what about we charge you with a section 5 ???
Whats that
Swearing in a public place,

WHAT....haaaaaaa, OK then

I did that just to get it all over with.

Tackling yobs and helping the police. ME.....no thanks, never again.

What irked me most was as I opened the door to the copper , after he sked my name he just said, look Mr xxxx we can do this the easy way or the hard way, hands out?

I had a similar thing in Chichester. 1am A guy was on our driveway trying to rip the wing mirror off my Range Rover and was kicking the vehicle door in. Siân tried to wake me, but I’d been away working for a week with little or no sleep. I had been feeling rough and had gone to bed with a dose of Night Nurse. I woke groggily as she was at the bedroom window describing to the police what she was seeing, and they were telling her they had no one to send. I came to my senses, looked out the window, and left the bedroom. As I left, I heard Siân saying, It’s OK, my husband is awake now and he will deal with it.

I did, I and went straight out to this guy, who now had the wing mirror in his hand and was trying to yank the cable from the car. He didn’t see me; I blindsided him. With a peach of a punch to his right ear, he went down hard and was out; I kicked his legs, and he woke up. He took one look at me, got up, and ran. I was in the mood to give him some more, so I gave chase. I think he was high, or very drunk has his upper body ran faster than his legs like a 100m sprinter trying to get his chest to a finish line, and he fell forward and face planted the pavement with only his nose to break his fall, his face was covered in blood and I lost the urge to hit him again. As I stood over him remonstrating, the police arrived, their headlights picking out all the blood.

I told them the blood was nothing to do with me, but one miserable copper would have none of it. He told me to go indoors; and after they had a statement from the injured guy to expect them to come back and charge me with assault.

But at 7am the next day, his much more reasonable mate called round, he apologised for his colleague; saying the bleeding guy was going to be charged for criminal damage, that he couldn’t remember much, and thought it all a bad dream. This nice copper wanted to put us out of our misery to say no one else would visit and they would not be bringing charges. Before he left, he gave me some good advice that I heed to this day. If you are going to confront someone outside your home, try not to do it completely naked!

Hard to believe as criminal damage was being done and you were making a Citizen's Arrest by apprehending the perpertrator.
What was the final outcome?

I received a fine :) but it was farcicle. You had to be there to believe it.
The Charge the prosecution /outlined in the court was section ???? may have been 3 or 38 something (to do with dragging him to the ground and hitting him)
I argued I was hitting back (self defence) and trying to restrain., (it was handbags basically and he got a cut eye)

So I asked if the charge that they had just hit me with ,(bear in mind I just wanted it to be over) "would that stop me getting onto the USA trip in 2 months time" ?

A shifty through books and papers and the answer came back Possibly, (they actually asked me to adjourn and wait outside while they checked) SO I said no, Im not admitting guilt. Thats when the "you know if you go to crown court they can jail you etc etc started.

I still said whats right it right, and no Im not accepting something like that.

a bit of backwards and forwards , and the section 5 came up....I said what SWEARING ???? laughed and said Id plead yes to that.

Outcome was a fine , cant remember how much. Absolute waste of time, effort and money.
but rememeber it was us that called the police, my neighbours friend that said he maybe new where he lived, and really us that asked the police to go and find him.

My car was still solid, but others down the street were in a mess.

EDIT...Oh one more thng as I was getting in the police car outside my house, he did his best to bang my head intoo the roof. Then as we were driving to the police station, he was saying things like, I bet you beat up your wife , calling me bully etc etc??? crazy.
When we got the the cop shop, as he got out of the car he walked round and said to the young lad who was sat next to me in the back, before he opened my door again, "dont forget he tried to resist arrest"? thinking I couldnt hear but the window was cracked open a little.

I lost a lot of respect that day, though dont want to tar everyone with the same brush...PC/Officer Cheung ? funny how I remember that

A piece of advice I was given some time ago by a copper was,
Next time only hit him once, that is likely to be in self defence.... More than once gives you a problem.
So, make it good one, then report that he assaulted you.
My Sales Director was an ex police inspector. His mantra was that if you have to pull out into a busy road choose to do it in front of posh car with a lady driver. She won't want to damage her hubby's P&J.
(I suppose that has always been a non-PC thing to say). o.gif

What did they charge the scrote with who you hit? and did you claim iff your insurance for the damage, if so I woukd have past the scrotes details on to your insurance company so they could recover costs, if the Police didn’t do it for you.

I well remember a Police Inspector at Hendon telling us that if we wanted to murder someone, and have a good chance of getting away with it, then we should run them over!

Long story, I came home and found a couple of kids in the neighbours roof removing the tiles, (a favourite way of breaking into a house!) I shouted, they got down and took off at the speed of light.

Had a shower, bang bang bang on the door!

Answered the door, overweight Aussie accused me of chasing his kid, when I answered got the usual verbal "Pommy Bas*ard, Go home Pommy whining C*** etc etc etc all the usual BS He was going to do this and that shout shout shout.
.
I didn't mind being called a Pommy Basta** by work mates Banter and all that carry on, BUT when it was spat at me!

Grabbed him by the throat and pushed him off the steps, still holding him, got in a couple of good ones, dropped him, then as he struggled to his feet got in a a bollack cruncher . Read him his pedigree and he took off.

Couple of hours later a couple of NSWs finest at the door, I invited them in, "a serious assault!"
I admitted everything, said it was "self defense" The scroat had threatened to kill me!. They left, came back a couple of hours later, Next time matey! If someone threatens to kill you, call the cops.

Real coppers! doing their job!

Implication being that they will have the pleasure of doing the same job for you?

The majority of Coppers I work with are good as gold. They get it and work hard for the public, even putting their lives at risk for strangers. Look at the Coppers who tackled the terrorist who killed poor Sir David Ames for instance. There are some idiots, but who hasn’t been in a workplace with a few of those?

There really aren’t enough Cops around anymore. The 20,000 they are replacing will barely scratch the surface. With retirees and leavers, they need 36,000 to get back where they were and that’s not counting back office staff and PCSO’s who were also decimated.

In short, if you want lots of Police around, which most people do until they get caught speeding, then it costs.
