As part of our forthcoming tour we will be in Switzerland, Croatia and Hungry - is it worth getting local currency for these countries or just use euros and cards?

We are in Croatia atm, card fine in most places, we have Halifax Clarity card. However, some of the smaller reataruants, bars and cafe's only accept cash, so may best to bring some Kuna with you just in case.

Don't use Euro in Switzerland unless you like being ripped off. Croatia ATM everywhere they vandalise old buildings with them.
We use a combination of Halifax Clarity, Revolut & Metro Bank.

Still trying to get rid of this

Still legal tender in uk unless it has changed recently
A Scottish £5 would be but not a £1 note.

I used to love paying for things in Woolworth with Scottish notes it brought the place to a standstill.

You should try N Irish notes. A variety of about 5 different banks names on them.
I thought the Scottish pound although few and far between were still legal tender
