If you change leisure batteries to lithium, do you have to change the charger that was fitted as standard to the van or have an extra charger just for the leisure batteries ? If you change the charger profile to lithium, how does that not fubar the starter battery that will have different charging rates etc.

It would depend on the charger fitted to yours. Some have a lithium profile some not. Either way it won’t affect the engine battery charging profile.

Engine batteries are usually charged up via the alternator, not the habitation leisure battery charger.

But when on hookup do not both engine and leisure batteries get charged ?
Not always the case ,depends on your van .mine is an Eldiss and just the hab batteries are charged up on hook up. I use a battery master to keep my starter battery topped up

So your leisure battery only charges while driving and cannot be charged on EHU ?
That’s odd

You have a Hymer which will have an Elektroblock charger/distribution unit it has a separate charger output to the starter battery that gives a 2 amp trickle charge.
The leisure battery charger will have settings for Gel & LA or Gel & AGM depending on the year. Lithiums can be charged on the Gel setting but not ideal due to the long absorption phase which is not that good for Litium.
You can fit a separate mains charger and pull the 20 amp fuse (Internes lademodul) that controls the mains charger the starter battery will still be charged with the fuse removed.
