Has anyone installed a freedom lithium safepower
Smart BMS LiFePo4 Leisure battery they come
With a 10 year Guarantee they are on a bay at
£399.00. It’s a 12volt 100Ah unit
It looks to good to true, most are around the
£5 to 900 rice range

Relion, which is one of the more expensive LiFePO4s uses matched cells i.e they start off with cells of identical voltage. This means that the cell balancing function of the BMS is rarely, if ever, needed. The cheaper batteries may well start of with unmatched cells which means the battery will rely more heavily on cell balancing to maintain performance.

Edit. I suspect there are other construction differences too but the 10 year guarantee suggests they believe in their product.

Prices are dropping. I gambled on them coming down and managed to get 200 ah for £650 about 2 months ago with immediate delivery
Just seen one on amazon for £590 with 3 week delivery

Matched cells means equal, or close to, in capacity; not voltage. The voltage or SOC it’s dealt with charging hundreds of a time at the same voltage. That’s not a issue. To match correctly cells need to be capacity tested; charged fully-discharged fully, then partially recharged ready for assembly. At this stage they get matched and graded.

A 10 year guarantee sounds to be ok provided the seller is still there in 2 to 3 years time.

OK voltage alone was an oversimplification. Relion gives 10 factors for cell matching, only one of which is voltage.

When assembling multiple cells together either in series or in parallel we match and group cells together based on 10 consistencies;
1.Consistency of self discharge 2.Consistency of voltage 3.Consistency of inner impedance 4.Consistency of capacity 5. Consistency of cycle life 6. Consistency of platform 7.Consistency of constant current rate 8.Consistency of cell power control 9.Consistency of parallel module control 10. Consistency of finished battery control.”

It could still be good value at the price. I probably wouldn’t shell out £900 again now there are cheaper alternatives.
