We intend to spend the first 3 weeks of December this year in and around Lisbon using our MH. Are there any recommendations please for camp sites, Aires and notable things to do or where to go? in particular in Lisbon.
We also hope to visit areas around Lisbon within a 100km radius

Thank you

JJ

Are you driving down from the north to Lisbon?

If so...

Coimbra is a lovely university town. There is a free "aire" just across the river (use the new footbridge) and a Burger King.

Conimbriga has some of the best Roman ruins in Europe. (Near to Coimbra.)

Near Lisbon, Estoril and Sintra are worth a visit. Estoril has a Casino you can wander around from 4pm until late. Arrive at 3 ish if you want to park in the carpark!

60 ish kms south of Lisbon is Alcacer do Sal 12 kms from Pego Altar, a lakeside freeloading area featuring Rui's Modina restaurant.

If you go to any of these places, on the way you are travelling close to Quinta Majay... a heavenly peaceful place with lots of olive trees and well digging opportunities.

The palaces around Sintra are wonderful but will they be open in December.

Beware of the motorhome parking at the Sintra interchange as we got broken into there in broad daylight (first time in 11 years).

Thanks JJ, all interesting. Yes we are travelling from the north unless the weather in early December is very poor, in which case we will travel up from the south in the 2nd week of Dec. We're probably passing your angel's home on the way, shall we bring her with?
Ah well digging, could help you out there if you have a digger?

Sorry to hear of your break-in, but know the feeling. Sintra looks very promising, thanks Jon

Anyone got any inside info on Lisbon itself, stuff not read on Tripadvisor or in a guide book?

Daughter lived there for 6 months about 8 years ago on a student exchange, she said she felt very safe there. Friendly people, English widely spoken. Custard pie shop in Belem, yum yum. Go to a Fados session, daughter took us to a couple in some little bars, only tourists there.
Wine was €1 a bottle in a little shop near her flat.:)

Thanks again Olley, it's the friendly people and now the Custard pie shop we're going for. Also it's a city with a great history we believe. Will certainly try a Fado session if we can find a real one.

Don't have the name of the Custard shop do you, got a bit of a thing about custard so you've really made my day.

It's called the Anteiga Confeitaria de Belem - but the signs on the outside of the blue and white tiled shop just say Pasteis de Belem. And at most times you can easily tell the shop by the long queues outside!

What a good day, lots of information with photos of the custard shop, thank you both.

Lisbon is shaping up to be what we had hoped, a characterful vibrant city by the sea with friendly people
