We were really impressed with the Gtech bikes (about 16kg) when we test rode them at Malvern but I have no long term experience of them.

What type of riding are you hoping to do, road, tour, mountain? What sort of distances, local shop, hour's tour? All influences whether it is suitable.

Many bikes the weight can be reduced a little by taking off the battery, but bottom line e-bikes are heavier due to the motor and other uprated components to handle the extra torque the motor creates.

My push bike is bloody heavy,,about 22 kg..Can lift it on the rack which is chest high but getting no younger,,74 next so thought a little bit of assistance on hills may help. We manage between 8 and 20 miles a day at the moment but not off road. Came back to Isla Plana with full load of shopping from The Port,,head wind all the way,,quite hilly also,,nearly killed us.BUSBY.

Your bike is possibly as heavy as the majority of ebikes (with battery) but the advantage is when you're riding them. You'll have a smile ear to ear on the first hill you try!

Ours are mountain bikes and are 23 kilos so if you want a hybrid they may be lighter.

Remove the battery before loading on the rack and you'll be there. You need the batteries in the van: to move weight forward, to charge it, and to prevent theft.

GoCycle 16kg with battery. Folds down into it’s own carry case, no need to use an external rack.

One of the things I like about the GTech, is the carbon fibre belt. There is no grease whatsoever. Also, I like the fact that there are no gears to go wrong or throw a greasy chain.
As I've said before, it's horses for courses. All we do is ride from the site to the shops or nearby towns, canal tow paths etc. If you want to go off trails, mountain cycling, long distances, etc, you'd probably want something more sophisticated.

We have just bought two of these

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bi...electric-hybrid-bike-white-navy--17-19-frames

(Mine is a much more butch navy blue :whistle:)

Specs give them as 22kg, reduced by 2.3kg when you take the battery out. We also remove saddle and stem before putting them on the rack to reduce the weight and as a security measure.

They also do a folding e-bike at the same price which is even lighter but we didn't fancy 20" wheels.
