Always have tended to take chances and sometimes, they go wrong... very, very wrong!

Medical issues led to me to avoid taking a test at 70 so my licence no longer covered my Hymer 660S.

I looked at my options, made a choice and took a chance!

Yesterday, after two years of trouble free motoring, 5 seconds of distraction led to me touching the side of a car in my local supermarket carpark.

Totally my fault.

End result... I can no longer drive my beloved Hymer on the road (although, of course, I can still live in it!).

Still rather depressed over the matter and trying to work out my (many) options...

Right now one of them would be to trade in the Hymer for a smaller, Portuguese registered, van....

Just look at the "incident" that led to my downfall...

Again... totally my fault but my current lifestyle has been changed in seconds!

Oh well... serves me right hey?

(Update... his repairs will cost me €700. Hymer totally unmarked)

Sorry,I must be thick.....even thicker than normal.
So you were driving the van without having the proper license? And therefore also not insured?
Have I missed something?:)

That's a shame JJ. Can you not take the test now?

Surely thats a knock for knock as I cannot imagine any personal injuries occurring from that mishap.
Why were the old bill involved and who sent for them ?.

JJ sorry to read this hope you can find a way to resolve this you and your beloved Hymer just fit together.
A message to others though just not worth taking chances.

It is the way of things here...

Had my mate Mosca been here he would have had it all sorted but by the time he arrived it was done!

So what has exactly happened?
Have the police been involved and noticed your licence doesn't cover your van?

Hard luck JJ. does that mean you are going to have to stay on your land from now on. Jan & I were hoping to bump into you in the new year. All the best Bill

Even the smallest accident is reported to the police. In this case is seems that the car driver would have done so.

If it was medical issues that led JJ to avoid going for the test I doubt he will be any fitter now.

I suspect this is going to cost loads. Fine, pay for damage, get a vehicle to do the shopping, change to a lighter van.
OUCH.
I recon the next hole JJ will be digging won't be for water. He will be looking for the quinta ma jay treasure. (Sorry about the spelling JJ)

You speak the truth...

...were it not for my fabulous wealth (and lumpy mattress) I would have thrown myself head first down my deep (the top one) well already...

What is the reason behind not upgrading your licence?
I imagine you have held a licence up to 7.5t for a number of years, so a simple medical (certainly not onerous here),should sort it out. Unless of course Portuguese rules are different to U.K.

Looks like the car is parked, unless it jumped out into him ?

Well hopefully the car for shopping and lighter van can be one and the same so maybe not SO much expenditure.

Sorry to hear of your mishap, hope you find a lighter van you can love ...

I suppose doing a cash deal and saying nothing doesn’t apply in Portugal?

Sorry to hear that JJ - how has your princess taken the news?>

There is always someone worse off, a guy I work with started having problems lifting his arms and carrying things back in March, since then he has been told he can't drive (£115,000 Audi RS6 sitting on his drive) and he physically can't now, he was finally officially diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease on Thursday last week. Really does make you think.

Good luck sorting your predicament out, from what I've read of you on here I think you'll work something out, and may even come up smelling of roses! (y) (y) ? ?

How can it be knock for knock the other vehicle washy moving and JJ drove into it, as he says, to his credit, totally his fault.

Well I know one thing for sure. If this little mishap had happened in a UK supermarket carpark and someone phoned the old bill to report it. First thing the bill would say is "Was anyone injured". If the reply was "No, only my car slightly damaged", the bill would immediately loose interest. There reply would be, sort it out with your insurance companies. That of course would only apply after waiting 2 hours on the phone for a reply from bill. By that time everyone would have got fed up and gone home.

Sorry to hear that JJ. €700 sounds a bit steep
