Chausson 610
We have a 2018 Chausson 610. It was fitted with a Numax DC25MF 105ah leisure battery. This is no longer holding charge & so needs to be replaced.
Can I replace with a LiFePO4 Lithium Leisure Battery or will I need some adaption to the charging unit?
Thanks

You can replace with lifepo4, and if you need to change or add something, it’s entirely dependable on what you got now. If your charging is compatible with lifepo4, then, just change settings as appropriate. Some did change to lithium with the old gear that’s still in lithium parameters.

There's normally 3 sources of charge into the battery:
Mains AC
B2B/DC from the alternator
Solar

Ideally you'd make sure all 3 are lithium friendly.

As a minimum, I'd make sure your mains and solar are compatible as they probably put the most total energy into your battery. If they aren't lithium aware, they'll try to trickle charge the battery when it's still expecting to accept full current. So it'll never fill the battery.

The DC charger is more difficult. It'll be dumb, so just dump whatever it can into the battery. For most systems, it just means it'll get a slow charge. Wiring a DC charger is often the most hassle.

I've got all the bits and I'm about to install by Lithium in my 2020 van. The solar just needs a setting change. I've got a replacement AC charger to bypass the built in one. I've got a DC charger, but I'm going to closely monitor and see how it does without.

My hab batteries have got a couple of years to go but when I want to change to LiFePO4 I suspect my 20 year-old systems will need a revamp, even my 10 year-old Stirling B2B(I will ask the company). I want to add another 2 solar panels so will get a MPPT controller for that.

Perhaps have a read about lithium batteries on the A&N website.

A&N caravan repairs, very informative about all things to do with 12v electrical systems in this case is it worth having lithium batteries.

That piece does nothing to enhance their reputation. It’s a typically shoddy piece about ‘lithium’ and isn’t even worth taking the time to read.

Jeez just read it. What a lousy piece of writing with so many problems I don't even know where to start. Really no one should be reading that and taking it seriously.

No idea. I tripped over that website a few times and it has never been a positive experience. No idea who it is or anything about it to be honest. But it was so bad it stuck in my mind for a very long time.

A bit like me. I recall reading stuff on there years ago thinking it was dubious. As the years have passed I’ve seen lots of references, and directions/links to the site so thought maybe I’d been unfair to the guy/site. Reading that piece just reminded me why I’d previously judged it as I had.
