OOOOooooo !

Anyone used one of these ? Are they worth the money ?

And, as we do not have a Lidl on the Isle of Man, would anyone be prepared to pick one up for me and post it over ? Postage at my cost, obviously !

Used one for years before I got my Camos.
Needs practice to master but once you get the hang of it they do pick up Astra 2 even down in SW Portugal. But don't expect too many channels down there, in UK as good as any sat. dish.

Have a look at THIS SITE for info on setting up.

It says it has connection to car battery. Does this mean the system will work off 12v. supply? Anyone any idea how much of a drain it would be on the battery?

This isn't showing in any of the local stores on the Lidl website...any ideas??
Should it just show under 'hi-Tech' from 02/05/11???

£29.99...

Hmm, I can't locate it on the website now either. I have seen this happen before on the Lidl website - items are listed on the 'offers' pages, and then suddenly disappear or are withdrawn. I wonder if that's the case with the Portable Satellite Receiver?

Hope not.

Yup, before I had the auto fitted I used one for ages.
Quite easy to use once you get the hang of it ( or like me you get lumbered doing everyones on site.. LOL !! )
Does have limitations as the box will not take a card of course, but on the other hand it will pick up far more than just Astra 2d ..
If you travel down the continent at all they are VERY handy as you can swing it away from 28.2d east to 19.2d east and get Astra 1 programming.. Not a great selection but news etc is handy ..
Or a bit further round to 13d to Hot Bird which is the FreeSat position :thumb:
This is the HotBird footprint:

JJ's Guide on How To Find The Satellite.

1) Find Jaws' motorhome...

2) Park nearby...

3) Get your sat dish out, hold it upside down and look puzzled...

4) Wait a little while and the man himself will appear, take pity on you and have you connected in seconds... (He has an inbuilt sat finder in his brain...) :thumb: :thumb:

Try using the postcode NR3 2DP for the store. It shows up for this, so I assume that means only specific stores will be carrying it.

Well, I've learnt something about the Lidl website and offers - the fact that some of the offers are 'regional' and not national! Unfortunately, no sat kit in the Bristol area.

I have a TV with freeview and get digital picture OK with an ordinary arial (same as home)
What would I gain if I purchased one of these from Lidl? Any extra programmes ?
. We mainly use it for News, MotoGP and Grandprix at the moment. Does anyone think it would be worth getting one? They are on sale from tomorrow and at that price will soon sell out.
Thanks in advance. Joan:Confused:

Thanks shftzz for your information I got really excited about one of these when I realised it worked off 12v as well as 240v.
Suggested to Sue we might get one when she said, I don't want to watch T.V. when I am away from home and anyway the t.v in the van doesn't work off 12v so is no use when we are wild camping.

Oh the joy of having a clever wife - and tempting friends like you making all these goodies known to us.

Loads of these in B&Q yesterday half price at £25 :thumb:

I saw that one too, unfortunately it's one of the ones designed for fitting at home. It does not have a carry case, or suction pads and is also not 12V on the FTA receiver.

If the one at Lidle is a 12V receiver I shall buy one just for the receiver as I currently have a Sky box which will not run on 12V without an invertor. Also the FTA boxes can be used on 19E to get UK news etc. when outside the Astra 2 footprint on 28E...

Off to Lidl tomorrow and we shall see....:thumb:

Got one!

We were waiting outside Witney Lidl at 8.00 this morning, and the first four customers each left with a satellite kit - good job we went when we did as they only had four on the shelf!

Mind you, they did nicely out of us as we also bought one of the pop-up tents for 35 quid and some other bits and pieces!

Chuffed with the satellite receiver though, thanks to Shiftzz :thumb:

Can anyone tell whether it is the same as the Aldi offer:

It is most likely that they are very very similar. There maybe be a slightly different size dish, fixing plate, and receiver box.
However in essence its more or less the same and will do exactly the same job.

They come up on offer quite often...

not the same one Wyn, but they all do the same thing.

bit fiddly to set up because of the small dish and may not be very good in northern areas of scotland for same reason.

Try Aldi. More Expensive!

Link Removed

This is the Aldi one available this week. I bought one a couple of years ago and it was great in my caravan. Now put an Oyster Auto 85cm dish on top of my Motorhome and I decided to keep the Aldi receiver instead of the Sky system. Its brilliant. My Aldi supplied receiver also will controls the DiSEqC system. If you have an auto satellite system and you change to a programme on a different satellite it will instruct the auto sat system to move the dish from, for example Astra to Hotbird satellite.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DiSEqC

Not had time to programme this in yet due to it needing the two manuals together and a clear head! I've read that it is a little complicated.

The new Aldi ad says new slimline for 2011. Mine is already a pretty compact system.

Brian.
