The MH next to us here in Bath has four legs with broad round feet under the van presumably to level it. I hate driving onto ramps, are these worth getting and how much do they cost to retrofit?

These are what you mean I think:-

Best thing since sliced bread, just press a couple of buttons and you're level.
Cost a bit more than sliced bread though but you should get a bit of change from £5k.

We have them and love them.

Richard.

In an article from 2012

"However, while the system can be fitted to a smaller ‘van, it is really aimed at larger, high-value motorhomes where the cost of the self-levelling system – from £4,400 to £5,200, including fitting and VAT – can be justified."

@Caron yes lots of us have them as a retro fit option and the price quoted of around £5k is pretty accurate in my experience. E&P seem to be the leading brand but there are others and at least one of the "others" is a bit cheaper but it might be a touch of you get what you pay for.

Yes of course they are great for levelling but they have other uses as well, jacking up to change a wheel, jacking up to put bread tray's under your drive wheels when you get stuck etc etc.

While I am sure there is a lot of truth in the article you quote I am also aware of the hydraulics being fitted to more and more PVC's and smaller vans.

Indeed there was a nice new IH on here just last week and it had "all the toys" which of course included E&P.

Of course the other thing about them is the weight no point putting them on if you then have a weight up-grade to do etc unless you are really that bothered. I don't know what value they add secondhand but if it is at best half the cost of insallation you could be looking at 20 quid a level!!!! ( or 3 bottles of wine)

What do they weigh? 50kg or so?
That's quite a lot on a small van.

Gotta admit to having a bit of e&p envy tho..

Hydraulic levelling = Very fast levelling from driving seat before even switching off engine and no need to get out in the rain(y) you can sit and watch the tuggers getting soaked adjusting their steddies while you rise to a superior level.

Many other benefits including shower/ basins drain properly, wheels don't sink in wet pitch, drinks don't spill or slide off table, easy to Jack van up to change wheels and grease Al-Ko Chasis. As said they weigh around 45- 50 Kg but you will save most of this by not needing ramps and jacks.

Only down side in my opinion is the hole they leave in your bank balance but is often said "you can't take it with you"

We have the HPC system fitted by AS Airsuspension in Warrington and can be controlled from the on board panel or by mobile app on phone.:D

We have EP on our Hymer Exsis i698 wouldn't be without them best investment we have made since owning the van, got stuck this very trip and lifted the wheels out no trouble at all saved a lot of hassle.Best bit is just pressing a button when arriving on pitch and your level in a few seconds.

Thanks everyone all very helpful, we have a hymer tramp a year old and intend to keep it a long time sport may well be worth the investment. Told my husband about the price and he said "what!" But he says that about the price of everything except funnily enough beer...

@sallylillian that is for a 3.5t van. As quoted By mick at sap.
You'll probably have the heavier duty system being a heavier van.

We have the IH with all the toys!! The levellers were fitted by Mick at SAP, on ours we have them linked to VB rear air suspension. Cost of £5k and weight of 50 kg about right I think.
Just back from our first long weekend with them, have to agree with everyone else's comments, just fantastic! One press of the button, all level and stable, great for the shower, emptying the waste one press and van tilts in just the right direction!
If you are keeping your van, have deepest pockets, don't think you will regret it.
