Has anyone else received a letter from comfort about Avivas new policy on Motorhome Insurance?

Due to the increased number of thefts of Fords they will not insure a motorhome without either a cat 5 Alarm or Tracker.

They do offer an alternative (lesser) policy with a different underwriter & no problem with other insurers so not as bad as it seems when you receive the letter - it isn't worded well.

Is there a cat 5 alarm? I thought Categories 5 and 6 were for Trackers.

When I started using Comfort last year they were not interested in the fact that I had a Cat 1 alarm, all they insisted on was a Cat 5 or 6 Tracker. Not had any letters from them lately though.

Me neither are they only mailing FORD owners? Several insurers now want a cat1 alarm and cat5 tracker for FORD Motorhomes now.

Its actually a FIAT ducato I have so I assume its a standard letter because my renewal is due next month.

Just to clarify after reading the letter again it states: fitted with Thatcham Approved Category 5 or 6 tracking device.

Sorry for the misunderstanding I really should wear my glasses more often:D

I got my renewal through this weekend.

There is mention of the policy being with Aviva and a whole host of policy changes but no mention of Cat5 alarms, Fords or a tracker.

Renewed mine in advance of being in Spain when renewal due later this month and no mention of this, my Hymer is Fiat based so clearly only applies to Ford based vehicles. Not a surprise really considering the number of reports of theft of Ford vans.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
Reading this thread made me giggle, A friend of ours had his brand new caravan stolen off his driveway, he had a tracker fitted to that he traced it to a gypsy campsite.
He phoned the police telling them where is was and they weren`t interested, he then phoned his insurance company telling them he was actually looking at the caravan, the insurance guy told him they would just pay for a new caravan.
So what is the point of an insurance company insisting on a tracker?

The OP's van is a Fiat base.

I am wondering whether it depends on whether the van is in secure storage or not?

Reading this I wasn't 100% sure this was just Fords. So I just called them.

I was told the change is for all Fords of any value and/or any motorhome with a value of £55k+

Astonishing - do we really have 'no-go' areas in the UK?

And indeed, what is the point of having a tracker if that is the outcome!

As I understand it last year they only required a tracker if your motorhome was valued at over £70k. Looks like they have lowered that figure. We will see what the premium is like at renewal in July.

It's a shame that having deadlocks fitted doesn't help. Especially for Ford owners.

We purchased a Comfort Policy in Aug-17 and the value threshold was £55,000 then. It must have just changed after you started your policy in July.

Yes,we do have no go areas in the UK. And I’m not talking about some inner city area that you might think this applied to.

Renewed my Autotrail with Comfort last week, no letters other than invite to renew.
Went up £7 due to the stealth tax (Insurance premium) going up.
