Hi All,
We took collection of a new Swift Select 144 PVC 7 weeks ago, which was a downsize from a Motorhome as it's just more pratical for our purposes and we've been delighted with it so far.
Last week somebody drove into the side of the van, we've got their details and they've admitted full fault and we have an off duty WPC as a witness, the real problems started when we started the insurance claim.
We are insured with Caravan Guard and so far they've proved totally inept at dealing with the claim. On calling them they immediately passed us off to the underwriters (Royal Sun Alliance), who told us to take it back to the dealer we purchased from for repair. The dealer, like most, is a sales and Service centre and not a body repair shop. We were then told to find a body shop ourselves! Obviously this a specialist vehicle and your average body shop are just not interested in taking on this type of repair. We then asked if they have a list of prefered repair agents but it seems they don't, despite being a specialist insurance broker!
We've since found a Crash repair specialist that seem decent and are awaiting the quote for the underwriters to be completed, so we're hoping the repair can be undertaken soon.
Caravan Guard have a customer liason line which has been closed (due to unforseen circumstances according to the message when we call), since the accident.
to add insult to injury it's also premium renewal time, which was £360 prior to the accident but whithin two days of starting the claim has risen to £900!!
Caravan Guard has stated that we MIGHT get SOME of the increased premium back once blame has been established by them but we'll have to claim for that.
It seems as brokers they just want to take our premium then fob us off to the underwriters as soon as there's a claim and you need their help.

My advice to anyone with a Motorhome is to contact your broker to check if they have a recommended body repair specialist and if they don't, find one to use yourself, it might save you some aggravation if you have an accident.

What a bummer. That would seriously pee me off. It’s the same in the USA. We had our RV broken into when in storage and coinciding with the George Floyd riots. Contacted the insurance company told to claim for stolen articles and damage. I said I can’t fly over just to see what’s been stolen or damaged. they said we can’t inspect the vehicle blaming covid, the offed me 38$ for a damaged window catch, yes really. Take off the excess and it wasn’t worth the trouble. We have since sold the RV. Don’t you just love em.

As you say, Bummer. It's just a shame that Insurance companies manage to add stress to an already stressful situation!
