Can anyone recommend a good motorhome site in the Les Sables d'Olonne or Olonne-sur-mer coastal region of France north of La Rochelle. We're familiar with the area but some of the sites we checked out last year seemed to be mainly holiday chalets and the few pitches available were suited more for very small camper vans rather than a 6-7 metre motorhome. Any suggestions welcome, thanks!

It is not at either of the places you asked about, but I have stayed a couple of times at Les Fosses Rouges at Chateau d'Ollone, so walking distance to where you want to be and also walking distance to a hypermarket and other retail opportunities. They take the ACSI camping card.

Pitch size is OK, there are mobile homes but there are still plenty of camping pitches and everything seems to work OK. There is a bus from close by into Ollone-sur-mer and also another that runs from the retail park. Plenty of walking and cycling in the area, 10-15 minutes walk down to the sea. Also walking distance to the zoo and casino.

Last time we were down that way, about 12 years ago in a classic VW Kombi, we used Camping Chadotel Les Dunes de Sable, which according to their website still offers touring pitches.

In hindsight, as we were into surfing and bodyboarding at the time, we wish we'd stayed at Brem-sur-Mer, but the above site has beach access.

started in a minivan 1970's when I could fit into it.
Last year we stopped at Le bois joly.We went with our daughter and her 4 kids.Stopped for 2 weeks but think 1 would have been enough. Our hymer is 6.5 metres and were able to find a good sized pitch easy enough.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. Very helpful ! We have stayed a few times at Les Ormeaux in Olonne-sur-mer which is ideal. It's just that the sanitaires need a complete make-over!! Anyone been to the site the last two years??
Keep your recommendations coming and thanks again.

We stayed at http://www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/le_littoral a few years ago.
It's well situated and facilities are perfectly acceptable, also plenty of pitches for larger motorhomes.
It is a family orientated site with plenty of chalets although this doesn't detract from the atmosphere, I wouldn't describe it as 'lively'...
