The palace houses one of the finest libraries in Europe. They still use bats to control insects to help preserve the books. They cover the books every night and let the bats out, in the morning they uncover the books and clean the floor.

Tonight's stop, Seixal, by the hydrofoil terminal. Sort of thinking of poping across to Lisbon but can hardly be bothered

We use them a bit as the are cheap and some of the roads can be diabolical also can be useful getting across the mountains. For the electronic ones we use the virtual toll card.

May be too late Lenny, but Lisbon is worth a visit. Only down side is beware of very good looking pickpockets ........... don't ask me how I know that.

If you do go, get the Metro or Tram out to Belem and visit the cake shop called Pasteis de Belem, which is said to have invented the gorgeous Pastel de Natas. Queues move quickly and ensure you get hot ones. They give you a little sachet of cinnamon with each one. We sat in the park to eat them - best ever.

The queue is mainly for those that want to sit down and eat and have a coffee etc. The take away queue is shorter and moves quickly. I would recommend you try them.

Lenny there's also parking at the new beach resort that you can see from the top wall. Nice sandy beach, ouitdoor showers and a newish bar/restaurant with plenty of parking which will accommodate large motorhomes.

There is also a couple of good spots a little further south of you that you may want to consider. The first one is very Idlyic CC78870. (Mourao) Very scenic on the edge of a lake with no facilities. The next one is a small town with a free Aire with all facilities (CC10791 Aldeia da Luz) the town has a sports bar (Guess how much I was paying for a drink ? ) and some small shops.. On the edge of the lake another spot that is idyllic.

As best as I can remember you cant see it from the car park with the roundabout directly below you and the large lake directly across. You need to look further to your left and follow the metal road for a couple of K's and you should be able to make out the new parking area next to the lake. Between the parking area and the lake is a man made beach of sand, a play are for children and a number of huts and Showers on the beach and to the right a large restaurant/bar with outside seating. There are no parking restrictions for Motorhomes. Well, none when I went down to explore it in 2018.

Here it is in Google Maps.

Went down and had a look can't park where you parked as they have put low wooden railing around the new carpark and Mi didn't like the view.

The boss wanted to look at some old rocks today, took a wrong turning and found an old convent, Convento da Orada. They restored it from ruins at the end of the last century and it was going to be a tourist attraction. Didn't happen and has just been left since the restoration.
