Guessing time.
No menu, no prices, just asked if you want meat or fish.

And then the main course came OMG!

What we couldn't eat was put in a container to take with us - tomorrows dinner sorted.

Didn't actually know how much it was going to be until we paid. Not only were the steaks huge, one was enough for two, they were really nice and tender, 6 jacket potatoes between us was a bit much.

Don't care what it costs as that is my kind of meal. No fussy modern crap but honest to goodness grub. (and that's a fervent foodie talking!!)

That is exactly the sort of place we like to eat when we are in Portugal not knowing what you are going to get is part of the fun and especially if it's busy with locals.
There is a place in Lisbon at 10 euro a head, they just keep putting different fish from the BBQ on your plate until you are full ( also served with potatoes and salad )

I was in a restaurant in Portugal with Sundowners son shane the last night before I left barril de Alva .....3 courses plus 2 glasses of wine plus coffee. Main was a choice of octopus or some sort of bolognese lasagne pasta thing, the soup starter they brought in a huge big serving bowl there was enough for 6 portions.....I had 2 then then the main came and I could have fed 4 people with it .....
I left stuffed lol and it was €8 per head


I was really surprised at the difference between the north east of Portugal and the South and West.

Another day 4 of us had a 3 course meal with coffee and the bill was €26 ......unbelievable

My only gripe their fuel is too dear

I just filled up again in Spain €1.11
Makes a big difference from €1.44 when you're filling a tank
