Saturday headed off down towards Verdun, Mijhan wanted to detour to a wildlife park, she has now lost all her brownie points. -
She takes me over 10km down this nice wide road, I'm exaggerating a bit the road was about 3 ft wider than our bus luckily only met one car coming the other way and just happened to be at the only passing point. If that's not enough we get there and find it no longer exists so carry on another 10km on this loverly wide road arrrg!:)

Anyway got to Verdun and parked up in one of the Citadel car parks under the walls. Went and did the Citadel underground tour, expensive and naff I wouldn't recommend it.

This morning up nice and early 9:00 and managed tto get out by 11:00, good for us, "Don't do Mornings".

Went up to the Douaumont Ossuary, the scale of what happened at Verdun is almost beond belief, really brings it home when you see the piles of human bones in the Ossuary. Then we had a look around where the village of Douaumont stood the silence is quite eerie, and also had a look at where Fleury stood and also the Trench of Bayonets.

THis gun was operated manually it took 18 men, after firing the gun could be withdrawn into the domed turret and the turret retracted in 15 sec, following pic show the mechanism.

Found a great stop for the night, high up in the forest near Fort de Liouville all on our own, the drive up there was a bone shaking ride of a couple of miles up forest tracks.

Interesting window frames for fifteenth century, maybe that's where the idea of lean to came from

Not normally a fan of TV chefs, the other night cringed our way through Jamie Oliver's new program. The boss decided she wanted to try his Sticky Lamb Chops.

Supposed to take 15min to prepare and cook, just over an hour later they were on the plate, they were very nice. We substituted mint for thyme as we could find any fresh thyme. ( truth was couldn't remember what herb he used).

My wallet was not so impressed its still recovering from the price of French trimmed lamb chops in France.

Since leaving Belgium we have been following the Meuse upstream, apparently one of France's largest rivers, we had never heard of it before.
Anyway we made it to the source today.
