We have been on the Ile de Re the last few days, a bit boring & flat, if we want flat we much prefer the Camargue.

Tues morning (well nearly midday that's morning to us) started heading south east towards Bergerac, running out of time to get to Spain so just meandering around France.
First stop was Château de la Roche-Courbon, pick ourselves up of the ground when we discovered it would be €24 for the pair of us to look around so gave that a miss, a photo from the gate was good enough, they look better from the outside anyway.
Carried on down the road to Saintes where there is a big Roman Amphitheatre The Aire there wasn't very inspiring and next to a noisy road and seen enough old Roman rocks so carried on to next village.
What a cracker of an Aire at Saint-Genis-de-Saintonge, can't say the same for the village unfortunately.

Who could not want to stay at an Aire in a road with a name like this.

not long enough
we have found a few really nice aires right by or in villages but with virtually nothing to spend our money on, lucky to find bread sometimes, the aires are usually free as well o_O

As we carried on south east this morning discovered we were only just up the road from the infamous Twin Lakes as we sailed by. Getting warmer now 31 deg today and now at 10:30pm still 25 deg, holiday weather at last.
Now at Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt on the Dordogne, a small free Aire only 4 spaces and we got the one by the river.

Paupiettes de Porc by the river.

Moved upstream today now at Limeuil, charming village built on a rock outcrop, Aire is just a stretch of raised ground just off the road, free and fine for us. Carpark was quite full and cars arriving all the time, it's a bank holiday but the village was quiet people were just going down to the river to play.
We saw from a Camper Contact review @KeithChesterfield was here a few days ago.
The restaurant by the river has a rock band playing tomorrow night so we are going to stay another night.

Limeuil is a lovely little village and well worth a stopover.

If you have a religious leaning the Church at the top of the village has Sunday morning services in English and the Church gets full of Brits.

And the Le Chai restaurant on the way into town has very good evening meals.

We were also parked in the riverside spot at Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt a few weeks ago - peaceful except for those bl**dy Church bells.

So many free stopovers - no wonder you can afford to eat well

You didn't find a pair of blue Croc shoes, size 5, on the grass did you?
We lost a pair around that time.

Good photos - enjoy your holiday.

Brit central around Limeuil I seem to recall though I haven't heard about crocs in the river. They must have been introduced to thin out the English invaders. :)

I thought that's what I'd been posting, I'm not going to post the crap, well only if its funny.:ROFLMAO:
Several days at 31 deg got to be worth a mention, proper holiday weather.
How can any day not be good one when you are in France in a Motorhome, only downside this is such a short trip only 3½ weeks.

Sunday moved on to Montignac, had a wander down the town which had a hudge bric a brac market going on encompassing most of the old town. Very nice municipal Aire €5 inc. EHU & servicing, had to wait until this morning for an English tour of Lascaux, the famous recreated cave.

Lenny HB - are you stalking where we went but hopefully still looking out for those blue Croc shoes size 5?

Did you go in the Prehistory Museums - interesting and cool inside?
Can't beat a good bit of stalking in a Motorhome.:D
Yes went in the museme, to be honest, I found it a bit boring only so many bits of old flint you can look at and they had to many. Liked the new display unit they have opened further down the path past the musume.
Agree nice and cool.

Now started to head north, tonight on a nice free Aire in a little village of Pageas on the N21.

When it was down by the river it must have been nice.
Knowing the Aire wasn't up to much I couldn't resist a wind up, we stayed there but we have an aversion to sites.

Great blog Lenny
How's the new van performing?
Very pleased with it. A couple of niggles, the passenger seat is not offset like it was in the Exsis which makes it tight between the seats when swiveled and what's really driving me nuts is the seats lock when swiveled 180 deg will be sorting that when we get back.
The Fantastic vent has been mounted in the bedroom, keeps the bedroom cool but does nothing for the lounge will be looking at a fan in the main roof light or another Fantastic vent.
Also the Hymer has a fault - the drivers step buzzer decided to stay on, so for now pulled the lead to the buzzer.

Tuesday headed up to Azay-le Rideau in the Loire Valley, the free parking now has signs up No Camping Cars 20:00 to 08:30, Camping-Car Parks has taken over part of the Municiple site for one of it's Aire €9.80 (inc tourist tax) inc wifi, EHU & servicing not bad by their standards but expensive by ours.
A bit of a bonus on the way up, stopped at an Auchan to get the balance of the wine we needed for daughters wedding and the wine the whole family loves was on offer from 30/6 - 6/6, buy 4 bottles 2 bottles free, perfect timing.

Starting to get cold now only 26 deg today and dropped to 20 in the evening had to did out the fleeces.

Today as I am now a year older decided to have a relaxing day but will pay for it tomorrow with extra driving.
Breakfast at 11:00 a wander around the Chateau, they have done a lot of work on it since we were here last over 20 years ago, stayed at the Municiple site with our caravan for a couple of weeks.
Very cold today only 24 but evening was warmer.

Strange things you find in the village centre.
