Leisure Battery (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on how to stop my leisure battery loosing it charge whilst being parked up on a campsite. After four days of minimal use the charge drops down to under 9vlts. Once we're back on the road it charges quickly from the vehicle battery. Why is it draining so quickly and why isn't it charging whilst on electric hookup? Can anyone help?

It sounds like your charger is not working. Turned off or fuse blown.
However if it has gone down to 9 volts its more likely that is knackered (cell failed)

Sounds like it's on it's last legs, I'm no expert but I do know that at 11.89v it's completely discharged so yours is probably damaged beyond repair and therefore not holding much to start with.

Thanks for comments. Will get hubby to check fuses but this is the second (new) battery that its happened to, so think you may have a point about the charger not working. Big job to sort??

I agree.....your battery is beyond help and needs replacing.

Do yourselves a favour and buy a multimeter £10 ish
If the charger is working it will show over 13 volts on charge (simple terms)

Just reread your post......the battery WILL NOT charge quickly from the engine.....it takes many hours of driving to recharge a flat leisure battery in this way.

To check if your charger is working........

When the battery is known to be discharged, turn on a light and have someone watch the brightness then turn on the charger or plug into hookup.

If its working the bulb will be far brighter than before.

Of course, if you have a multimeter then simply put that across the battery and note the voltage then turn on/plug in and recheck.

Whether the battery is charged or flat the voltage will be at least 13.6v with the charger on.

Instead of replacing batteries regularly maybe you should invest in a solar panel.
