Two weeks into a three week trip, everything fine and working ok. Suddenly leisure batteries discharged in 12 hrs.
Any ideas why?
I have a few tools, but no multi meter.
Vehicle 2017 Hymer cl t 678. Two 100 (ish) batteries with 100 solar panel and it's been very sunny 36°, plus driving 100 miles a day.
On route home from Italy back to the dealers.

Buy a multimeter from local garage / supermarket / car spares...
Could be as simple as a fuse but without a meter to check your a bit in the dark..

OK
simple question are the batteries maintenance free or can you check the acid levels ???

If you can check if any cells are dry and op up but I would find a shop and get a multimeter because if you have a fault on the charging system and it doesn't cut out - you could be boiling the batteries

but also how old are the batteries could be just at the end of their life
BUT
if the batteries are totally dead it is difficult to re charge them if not impossible

As it's a Hymer I'm guessing that the batteries are AGM
Maybe @Lenny HB can advise ?

Since Nov 2010 after 25 yrs under canvas.
FWIW our batteries were failing on an overnight stop a few months ago. Took the van to the local auto electrical specialist. Charged us £160 to checkout everything. No faults found. Ended up buying 2 new batteries, that's fixed it.

Hymer have been fitting AGM's since 2012, best place for them is the bin..

Although they shouldn't fail that quick and Hymer now fit Varta which are much better than the Banner crap they used to fit.
AGM's are fussy about charging, does your solar regulator have a proper AGM charging regime? If not could be the reason for their early death.

On my new 2017 Hymer I have fitted 3 Gels would not risk AGM's again after experience of them with last van.

Lenny, thanks for that. Varta batteries are fitted. The extra battery, plus additional charger and solar panel were fitted by dealer on collection. 36 hours before I am home.

What is the make and model of the solar regulator?

many many years! since I was a kid
I was speaking to a hymer owner last week and he was telling me about his various issues including a charger that failed nearly short circuit. the rapid discharge blew the fuse and it blew again when replaced. the dealer replaced the charger as a warranty issue after calling hymer for the go ahead

no idea of what charger he was talking about as he knew nothing about electrics, so could be the solar regulator just as easily

we seem to expect modern electrics to perform perfectly out of the box now, but early failures do happen for various reasons
