Do we have any suggestion regarding The best Leisure batteries for wild camping. I have 2 105 ah at the moment with a solar panel to keep them topped up.
They have been on for 4 years and think the are on the way out.

I went for a gel battery for the deeper discharge, longer life and no venting. Not so good if you've got a big inverter though.

I think my leisure batteries are defunct too. Showing a full charge yesterday but this morning!! I purposely left the inverter on last night with nothing drawing 230/240 volts just to see what would happen. I presently have 2 x 125ah leisure batteries with both stud & post connections, I'd like to replace with similar to avoid having to re-make off the connections. I believe the batteries could be quite old.

I'm also having issues with my Computer Management System 2000 in that it's not working at all but sometimes makes a chirping noise and flashes the message Bat/Low.

Measuring the voltage of a battery is easy but i's capacity to store is more difficult I believe.

There's no sun on the solar panel yet :)

Measuring capacity to store is easy, 55w car headlight bulb connected to battery, measure the Voltage every hour. The bulb is a 4.5A load, a 100AH battery should give you 50A, so 11hours before the Voltage starts to drop below useable. Mine lasted 1hr 10mins!!

Thanks Jim, I should have thought of that but often 'can't see the wood for the trees' :)

We used to have a heavy duty tester in my workplace, a pair of copper spikes with a heater in between - any batteries that were u/s would show up straight away.

When I went out to the van this morning, the voltage was 9.9v - that's two identical leisure's connected together! I've now disconnected the solar and I have them on charge. My suspicion is they'll show a good voltage but won't handle much of a load and replacements it'll be.

We've only had the van a few weeks so never used it in anger (no hook-up), Malvern would have been the first.

My leisure batteries are currently on charge before I attach the headlight bulb just purchased from Halfrauds, I'll then take hourly voltage readings as suggested by Happy Jim :)

Took a look at leisure batteries while at Halfrauds - how do prices compare to online?

Check out Varta LFD deep cycle leisure batteries.

I was very, very pleased with mine which I bought through Tayna Batteries.
