Year 3 of ownership !
A mate is buying a left hand drive, £24500 peguot/eldiss 5 berth motorhome. £300 a month for 10 years. I think thats a really good deal.

What are the pitfalls of buying new left hand vehicles ( pros and cons ) ?

He plans to keep the vehicle 15 years at least. Gutted as i have done a deal on a 16 yerar old motorhome and payiong £200 for 5 years.

I wished i done what he's doing......:cry::cry:

The only pitfall I can see with that deal is the interest on the loan! £36k to be repaid for a £24,500 loan. Was there a deposit to pay also - no don't tell me!

As for difference with left hand, I don't know we have never had a right hand motorhome.

Buying LHD is cheaper and selling is relative.

Driving wise theres no issues in my book.

Interest on credit is horrendous sadly.

£1000 deposit only. APR on the loan is 9.9% with lloyds finance. Yes its going to cost him £37,000 over ten years but its going to be worth about £15-£18,000 in ten years by current figures.

Free fiamma pull out thinghy, bike rack and a tv aerial worth £1000.

Hes planning on using it 70% here and 30% abroad mainly france.

In the UK left hand drives can be a bit harder to negotiate roundabouts with due to poor visibility!
Apart from that their just as good as any other!

The only thing I've found with a left-hand drive was Paying at Toll bridges.
Have to lean right across the cab to pay.
No problem of course if the Wife is in the passenger seat.

That and the visibility on an angled junction/roundabout as mentioned in a previous post.:thumb:

Mark,

The dealer is telling porkies, no motorhomes are made in Hull these days except Swift at Cottingham.. I think Elldis is part of the Explorer group.:winky:

Why would a british dealer have a LHD model UK van?

Most LHD motorhomes are imported across the channel :winky:

Mark,

It's very unusual to see a LHD UK unregistered van for sale.

It could be that the van was made specially for the Dusseldorf show or something on those lines.

I would suggest your pal asks they dealer for the history of the van.

Personally I would do a very thorough check before parting with any cash.

LHD Elddis

Hello

A few things from the thread....

As Don says, Elddis are not made in Hull, but are from County Durham and are part of www.explorer-group.co.uk

British marque on LHD - I have one. Mine is a Swift and the van was the show model at the NEC etc. It is therefore feasible that the Explorer Group had LHD versions for similar reasons.

Ask your pal to do a Google search for the van and see if any of the magazines have had it as a test vehicle etc.

Interest - yes it sounds a lot, but look at the figures. If your pal put £25,000 in a building society, paying 4% net, and compounded the interest, after 10 years the initial £25000 would be worth £37006.11 assuming interest rates remained constant etc.
