According to Mike who did our gas conversion, all diesels will have to pay £12.50 to go into Leeds as from next year.
Coming to a city near you soon.

Getting silly all this!

Bugger! I was planning a three month tour of Leeds too..

Discrimination .. They told us to buy Diesels now they don't want them. When will this Government make its mind up on what they do want.

Commercial and business vehicles

They run from A to D and we believe a Clean Air Zone B, which doesn’t include cars or private vans, will mean that Leeds will reach that legal compliance.”

And if it doesn't which is likely?

Bath is proposing a LEZ with a daily charge. Bristol will probably follow suit.

Clean air ... or jobs ... ?

Another nail in the high street coffin, and the councillors cant see it coming. Now we have LEZ zones coming in every major city town, pay a fee or else, then you get there, no free parking, then you have a hospital appointment, pay again LEZ plus hospital car park.
While the small independent shop owner stands there scratching his proverbial, paying business rates, that all the large internet providers dont.
Its total madness and very short sighted, even the high street survivors like betting offices, often two in a row, will close as its all available on line.
He says as he left clicks:D

Will not charge on m621 or m1 so can still by pass centre.
Been on about this for years.
Cannot see it personally any time soon.

Those living in the low emission zone will be hit hardest, they don't take prisoners.....

Now imagine sitting in one of those council meetings.....

Arrive about 10am, because you're a councillor you park for free, have a coffee chat about whatever and then the meeting starts, after about a month of meetings and listening to expert opinions, perhaps google something you all vote on a Low Emission charge because you care about the environment.

After you have had lunch you attend another meeting, this time about parking, you listen to more expert advice and read out some of the petitions from the local shop owners saying that this will affect their business and shoppers will go to the big shopping centres were parking is free, residents say they have nowhere to park over night etc etc.
You ignore all their comments and vote to put a charge in the what was a free shoppers carpark, you also refuse requests for residents parking permits, and impose a 30 min max stay Mon to Sat so now all those that parked their cars are forced to just park further away moving the problem to somewhere else.
Oh and now because you can only park for 30mins you have increased the traffic movements so congestion is worst on top of that the air pollution has increased because of the increase in traffic movements.
Over the coming months some of the local shops will have to close due to shoppers going elsewhere, putting some local people out of work.
House prices will fall because they don't have any where to park outside their house.

You finish your last meeting at 3pm and all head off to the pub.

An excellent day in the office.

Possibly a problem of Leeds own making. The clean air monitoring station is sited next to one of the busiest bus stands in the city. Why? Because they thought they were getting a new tram system and one of the justifications for it was to be able to say how clean the air is now. The tram long since cancelled and the replacement trolley bus scheme also cancelled they are now embarrassed. So brand new euro6 buses on those services ought to improve the figures sufficiently to now get off their own hook. Hence the commercial vehicles only plan at present.

I get sick of hearing about how bad Diesels are with no regard for the huge advances from 30 years ago to the latest Euro 6d or for the future potential.
They all just get lumped together as Diesels.

I changed my berlingo petrol for a berlingo euro 6 a month ago
I am in the zone

A relative of mine used to work for our council. Whilst attending a meeting about sustainable transport somebody asked the councillors and officers present if any of them had travelled there by public transport, cycled or on foot? Apparently silence was the reply.

On a serious note, We have had several small businesses over the years, some on the 'high st' some not but we used to employ people, happy people IMO. But would we do it now? Emphatically not.

The legislation/compliance/employment regulations make it incredibly difficult for small businesses these days.

Ever wonder why your high st is full of coffee shops and charity shops? its because Amazon dont do those!

Further barriers between the customers and the High st are death to small businesses.

We were in York over the weekend where we heard that they were proposing "no idling" sections on roads in the centre.

Sounds reasonable, it is idling that causes much pollution in city centres especially in the summer when people like to leave their A/C running....

I am really at a loss to understand how charging a fee reduces pollution? It really is all just a load of b******s, it’s all about raising money. If having to pay for something reduces the take up of that supposed dangerous activity then why do they treat the windfall income as a regular item of turnover and increase costs for inflation, boast about how much they make, set profit targets etc., Indirect taxation by cash strapped Authorities using diesel as a convenient scapegoat. What next, shoe leather charge if your shoes use real leather from endangered cows?

It's proposed for Edinburgh as well in the guise of a congestion charge.

Who needs Leeds ... Go to sunny Huddersfield just a few miles away ... No diesel punishments but no shops unless you love charity shops

Mayor Khan, introduces new emissions zones, then flies off on his holidays on a polluting aeroplane, side apart that another young Londoner is lying in a mortuary. London is polluted, so what do they do, oh yes approve more and more high rise properties, how do they get the materials to the site, bloody great big polluting lorries, which not only pollute but congest. I also have said before but this is a tax on the people who are less able to pay whilst the rich can kill people with their emmisions because the can afford too. If a vehicle is causing excessive emmisions, it should be banned entirely.

You would be hungry bunnies if they did. How do you think the stuff gets on the supermarket shelves!

It’s not all bad, Leeds might have a Premiership Football Team next year
