Since 2011 (tugger for 20 before that)
I have been looking for LED strip lights to throw some light in our wardrobe. I bought some 12v ones on a self adhesive strip and they throw out hardly any light at all. I changed them today for some "super bright" ones of the same self adhesive type and, although they are probably twice as bright as the previous ones, they were still quite dim.
Has anybody got any suggestions for a brighter type?
What have you guys fitted?

TIA
John

I put a strip light in the cab area and it’s very bright now.
Aten lighting 8v-30v.

Be careful what you wish for John, I bought a roll of super bright daylight white for a vertical ‘mood’ light that was so dim it was useless

Just had to order a dinner it is now too bright to use o_O

Will look up the EBay order I placed so you can avoid it

John @Baycott they will cut to length for you and solder tails on to whatever length you need. If you use Aten lighting mention Paul & Angela with the Hobby. We’ve fitted the outside light from there, dimmable too.

This is from a previous post when I added light in our wardrobe.

Next on the list was to get some decent lighting in the van wardrobe.
I had fitted some cheap Chinese battery operated PIR LED units in there but they were not a lot of cop and ate batteries.
While I had the loo out fitting the Thetford vent kit, I piggy backed a cable off the loo power feed and ran it under the van around to the wardrobe. With the cable now in the wardrobe, I hooked it up to a length of LED ribbon stuck above the wardrobe doors along with magnetic contacts to switch the lights on and off as the wardrobe doors are opened and closed.

If you want super bright LEDs look for cree ones. More expensive but totally worth it

How good they are depends on what LEDs you get in the strip (some are older technology and cr@p), how many are actually in the strip (ie the closer together the more you get) and what length. You can buy different lumens ratings too.

I have no idea about the lumen value (this was the description: "Superbright 5050 SMD LED, high intensity and reliability") but they are 30cm long with 18 LEDs in the strip.

Have you got a link and to any controller ?

There are 2 main LED chips normaly supplied on the strips.
The 3528 is a single chip and with a lower light level,
The 5050 is basically a triple chip with approx 3 times the lumens.
Either strip can be supplied with 30 LED chips per meter upto 120 per meter.
You could therefor buy anything from a 3528 (single chip) at 30 per meter to a 5050 (triple chip) at 120 per meter i.e at approx 12 times the brightness. Also note at 12 times the power consumption.
Hope this makes sense.

This is the one I bought Brian and just connected it to 12v supply.

Looks good to me. I've only bought the 5m reels but basically the same thing.

All I can think is measure the voltage at the LEDs just in case you are not getting the full 14V or so.

The good news is you certainly are not much out of pocket.
