I am thinking of changing the interior lights on my 09 Elddis 120 to LED, does anybody know if this is possible and is it just a case of replacing the old with LED bulbs or is there some other devious electrical trick which also has to be performed ? One other thing...where can I get these bulbs ? Thanks.

Usually if you have halogen bulbs, just pull them out and replace with an LED version.
You need check where the connections are as some mount at the side and some at the rear..

Also you can get LED strip lighting off ebay very cheap, cut to length and stick up under cupboards....:thumb:

We have a factory fitted (Autosleeper ) LED striplight and it consumes 4 amps so I only use the led lighting I fitted myself, which is approx 0.2 amps per bulb.
Two principal colours: Bright white for kitchen bathroom and reading, warm white for general.

Get 1 of each to try it is very subjective. We seem to prefer the bright white.
If you want to replace compact fluorescent bulbs then there is a bit of stripping out of the old circuitry and forming a mount for the led bulbs. Not very hard if you are slightly diy minded and still gives a worthwhile drop in power consumption.

Try these from a previous thread.
I bought my replacement led spots for my mh over a year ago, and am over the moon with them. I bought a mixture about 15 in all at about £2 each.

Hi,

We had an AutoQuest 120 on a 10 plate. I changed the four downlights in the lounge area with MR11 led bulbs from these guys http://www.ledhut.co.uk/spot-lights/mr11-led-bulbs.html
Mine came in packs of two but I can't remember what I paid.

They are easy to swap especially if you have rhino skin finger tips to remove and replace the curclips holding the bulbs in. The big difference is the reduction in the amount of wasted heat in the overhead lockers.

Good luck

We have lots of lights in our 2008 Adria - 5 spotlights in the lounge area, 2 spotlights in the loo, 1 spotlight in the shower, 2 spotlights under the sink/hob, 1 light (dual bulbs) in the corridor, 2 bedside lights, 2 lights in the wardrobes, 2 lights in the garage and 1 awning light. And all that in a 7.2m coachbuilt! All except one in one of the wardrobes were 12v Halogen G4 bulbs.

I bought 16 of [ame="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390666148365"]these [/ame]in two batches as a direct replacement for most of the existing bulbs. Although a Hong Kong company they have some stock in the UK and they were sent direct from there. Also bought a couple of higher wattage ones for the awning light and one side of the garage from the same company, although I am still waiting for those to be delivered from Hong Kong.

I have fitted most that I have. But has real problems with the spotlights (2 different types) getting the covers off to change the bulbs. Managed it on most of them, although with two I had to resort to some glue to fit them back together. And the spotlight in the shower I have given up on - it is set into the plastic shower wall and I am afraid of cracking that if I give it too much welly. All of the lights have been very good - no failures with any of them.

We bought some at a motorhome show and others on e-bay both work well but a big difference in cost. For under cupboard lighting found an IKEA one with a 12v tranformer so cut it off and works well. Some can be polarity specific so if they dont work at first turn them around don't assume they are faulty!

We have all led lights in our van, 6 Crown led28 dome ceiling lights and one oval shaped led28 above the cooker, 6 led spotlights above the seating and rear bed, 2 sets or led strips, 1 around the top inside of wall cupboards, that light up the ceiling, 1 around the bedroom and 2, halogen wall lights at the front near the cab. They are a nice warm yellow.
The ceiling lights are warm white and look really good.
They are like this inside and are only •32A (320mA)

Just searched for them on google, they are a bit pricey, but when they are all on, you have to wear sunglasses :sin:

many many years! since I was a kid
just about all LED light bulbs are made in China or Korea. the basic ones are identical to some of the higher price sellers, most likely from the same factory. the LEDs with built in regulator are more expensive, but a better quality and life span, but you need to do the sums. a 99p led will last maybe 1000hours or more of use in a van due to vibration and heat/humidity and voltage variation. at 3 or 4 hours use a night, thats the best part of a year used every day. the more expensive ones with voltage regulator last 3 or 4 times longer but if they cost £5 or more its not economical. the convenience of not having to carry spares may be a factor to you

as for specialist boards such as the ones shown in the post above are an expensive way to convert a fitting. it is just as simple to buy multiple car interior dome light boards and fit those. at least if one board fails you dont lose the whole light. just needs soldering or just use screw terminal blocks

Not sure what specialist boards you are referring to. The ones I have shown seem to be pretty standard - they are designed to directly replace a G4 halogen bulb. And they, just like the boards you have linked to, have 24 separate LEDs. For me using the boards you have shown would have been a real pain. They would not fit in any of my spotlights at all (although the round flat ones would) or my bedside lights, so I would have had to replace the whole light fittings (12 in all). I could have made them fit the other lights but it would have been a right faff having to find a way to fix them. Much easier to just take one bulb out and replace it with a similarly shaped one with the same fitting prongs. And the bulbs were less that £1.30 each, and would have been even cheaper if I had bought them direct from China or HK.

Having said that I entirely agree with you that it is probably better to go for the cheap bulbs, unless you use your motorhome all the time. As for how long they are going to last only time will tell. I am not sure there is any real difference between the "cheap" ones sold on ebay and the "expensive" ones sold by retailers. As you say they probably all come from the same factories.

Thanks everybody, top tips as usual. I shall delve into the mysterious world of ebay and purchase said bulbs, providing I can remove the old ones. Happy Christmas to you all.

sorry dont think i explained that bit well enough. change halogen bulbs with LED bulbs, but bigger round, square or long lights can easily be converted using the boards i linked to. just stick them in place using double sided foam tape.

the specialist conversion boards for the large crown lights and similar are particularly expensive for what is a very similar product. very little faffing about required to convert light fittings, but i prefer to take them down and convert them on the work bench.:thumb:

Ah I see. I can agree with that. My problem was that I only had one large ceiling light that would have been possible in, but it had two bulbs in it. In the end I decided to just put two G4s in rather than try anything else. It gives plenty enough light for us, especially with all the other lights we have got anyway.

SMD is just a surface mounted LED, i.e. the LED is mounted directly onto the PCB. Nearly all the LEDs on sale nowadays are SMDs, including most of the ones on Ebay. They are a lot cheaper than the OLPRO site though.

I am a newbie
Cheap ones please

I have tried to find the led replacement bulbs for the 12v 10w two pronged halogen ones. People say the £1.00 ones are ok, I have tried to find them on e-bay and cant'. There is a site that appears to have them at £0.99 but when you click "buy now" they flip to £4.99 each. There are also a number of sites offering them at £5.00 or thereabouts.

Anyone able to direct me to the £1.00 ones please.

Try Link Removed. They are a Chinese company but sent them to me from the UK.

Many of the listings (not this one) are for buying all sorts of different bulbs, and you then have to choose what you want and the number you want (hence the price changing). If you use those then you need to choose the ones that are 12v and have a G4 connection. Also do not choose 10W, the equivalent in LEDs are about 1.5W to 2W. You can find loads sold in single lots if you search eBay using "SMD LED bulb G4 12V"
