I changed my high level rear marker lights to led lamps and had exactly the same as you. I asked my brother (electronics expert type person) and he said that is to be expected. I asked him to explain to a numpty (me) why this is the case. Apparently very, very basically the new LED lamps don’t draw enough current so the Canbus system thinks they’re not working and shows the lamp out symbol. I’ve just gone back to the original lamps and all is fine again.

You need some 20 ohm 20w resistors in parallel with the bulbs. They will waste power just like the original bulbs and the canbus will be satisfied everything is working 👍

If we do this then the saving using LED is wasted so may just as well stay with what we have.

One of the reasons I haven't botherd changing any of the bulbs on our van, although whether it's got a canbus I don't know. But the main reason is reliability. A lot of led bulbs are Chinese crap.

All you can do is speak to the dealer and maybe they can remove the bulb warning?

Nah, I'll just stick with the old fashioned lamps. Thanks for the explanation(y).

I fitted led reversing lights as they were brighter. Soldered a resistor across each to stop the warning light coming on. Purchased a spare bulb to avoid the 'cheap chinese cr@p' problem in the event of one failing. That was 3 years ago, no problem so far.

Thinking about it We had a MINI with canbus and I kept getting bulb gone warning even though they were all off, I tried all the lights and they all worked.
Turned out the front fog lamps had rusty bulb holders so the computer was sensing no continuity through the filament even when off. So if the sensors work by continuity, maybe a higher value resistor in parallel with the bulb will work like 1k ohm.

*the diodes at a low continuity voltage will read open circuit*
