Snap. :(

Pam .. I know we have to start with lines and squares and easy things but do you think eventually I/we may be able to do something like this ..or am I being stupid? :(.. I am soooooo excited about learning at last :)

I am sure you will Joy. I find crochet much easier than knitting as once you get the hang of how to hold the yarn and the way the hook moves as you use it it is variations on the same movements. :)

Auntie Pam,

I’ve just rung my mum and she has a thin hook which I’m guessing is for crotcheting silk - so I’m hoping to make this by next week ...

But while I’m learning this week, she has a size 11 (her eyesight is abysmal so I’m not sure if that’s a real size or two gouges out of the hook...) but if it is a size is that ok or do I need to go out and buy one ?

You will probably rue the day you started this thread off .... xx

Sorry Anthea and Anne @davanne - I’m so excited I got you mixed up - but you’re both playing ‘hooky’ (I know - I’m gooooood) so I’ll just keep your seats warm and hopefully try and understand a couple of the words in what will be the totally foreign language of crocheting until you both get there. xx

I'm just worried that you will be so far in front that you will have finished your lacy top and we will still be casting on:LOL:

I got all the stuff to try and learn last January as I figured it would be the ideal MH hobby. Unfortunately I got as far as making a mini stuffed heart and then never got any further.

I'll try and give it another go - otherwise it's a waste of the stuff that I bought! But will have to start from the beginning again as I can't remember any of what I learnt

I did find it easier than knitting though, I think because I am very right handed and could never master control of the two needles, but one seemed ok :D

Make that four - forgot that the surgery phoned today to change my appointment from Thursday to tomorrow morning. Must be a first - getting an earlier slot for a routine appointment.

@snailtrailer Just rummaging through sewing box to see if I already had any hooks and came across these. They are plastic. The long one seems to be for measuring crochet hooks as each dent has a mm number on it but what is the round thing for please? Will I need to keep it for use eventually? Or shall I discard it?

Joy not sure if any one else has answered as I have not read all thread yet. The long one is for sizing knitting needles.

View attachment 217353 I've got a secret yearning to make something like this, maybe a bit ambitious

No reason why you shouldn’t be able to make that Afghan (blanket) the easy way is to learn how to do the six sided sections then put them together!
I Crochet, Tatt, and have done Micro Macrame, I have tried my hand at Stump Work too- that’s fun!
