Hi all,
I purchased a new Motorhome in 2019, had my first Water ingress test done by the retailer in February 2021 passed.
Second water ingress test in February 2022, a what was called a “minor leak” found where solar panel attached to roof. Retailer repaired by putting extra mastic over existing mastic on screw attaching L shaped bracket. Retailer assured me everything was ok.
In September last I purchased a water detector in Lidel and found a reading of 40 + on ceiling under the solar panel. No water stains visible, on further tests i noticed that the prongs were going through the roof easily. Retailer contacted the manufacturer and they are going to repair any damaged wood. Retailer informed me that it was the manufacturer that fitted the solar panel and put two extra L shaped brackets attached with screws down onto the roof, one on each side, which the retailer said should not have been done.
My concern is that if and when I sell the Motorhome and there’s a written record of a leak, which will probably cause a potential buyer not purchase or look for a reduced price. Am I entitled to compensation from the manufacturer ???

Hi Martin, The Motorhome manufacturer screwed bracket into the roof where leak developed and retailer put mastic over to repair. It’s still leaking

Looks like they have only sealed around three edges of the bracket allowing water the enter from the edge under the panel. Those rivets need drilling out, the sealer removed and the brackets unscrewed. Then either the brackets refixed with sealer underneath or omit the brackets and fit a cover plate bonded over the screw holes with proper adhesive.

I feel for you but are not surprised. You’ve only got to read some of the horror stories on here to to realise most dealers are only interested in sales. They see after sales as a unnecessary evil. Can you imagine buying a £70k car (just think about that £70k) and receiving the same level of service. Shocking…

You won’t be entitled to compensation, a repair yes, but nothing extra.

You could try to take them to court, it would be long, stressful and expensive and you will probably lose.

I would insist on it being fixed properly and quickly and carry on enjoying it. There aren’t many motorhomes or caravans around that haven’t leaked at some point. Every single one I have owned has.

Hope it’s sorted for you.

Thanks Googlbot, you’re probably right about compensation , dropped it off today with dealer to repair, before I did, I checked other parts of Motorhome and found another high reading of dampness on rear back wall inside the garage apartment. Depressed about it at this stage.

Would be interesting to know what was the cause of the damp you had found on the rear wall?
Hope everything is satisfactorily repaired by the dealer.

I have just finished successfully finished resealing my skylight and looking at the picture, they appear to have missed a suspect black area to the seam above/left of the bracket. To be honest, the rest of that seam leaves a lot to be desired (in fact rubbish) and they were probably hoping no-one would notice behind the awning!
