Hi everyone, Im new to the Motorhome scene and looking for a bit of assistance . Ive traced a leak on my 2004 Hymer 524 to a plastic pipe joint separation on the bathroom sink waste. The problem is though the separated joint is someway from the sink but directly under the shower tray.

I can see the problem with a flexi scope inspection camera, but sadly cant get my hands anywhere near it!!

How do you get access to under the shower tray? Are there any inspection panels or is it a cut though the lower floor job?

You have my sympathy though I can`t help with the problem.
Motorhomes it seems are put together without a thought for on-going repairs and maintenance.
Without detailed knowledge of the layout it`s difficult to advise.
Could you post some photos ?
Has it got a double floor, mat be access through there ?

I've no past experience with your Hymer but on most British built motorhomes they need to remove the shower enclosure before even starting to think about access to any leaking pipework under the shower tray. I've had a problem in that area in the past and was quoted between 2 - 3 hours labour so it should be a quick fix. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Thanks for the reply Figaro. Yep im finding out the hard way! Its annoying however that a job which should take 10 mins, is almost impossible due to the design of the van.

Dont think it has a double floor, but it looks like Im going to have no choice but to cut out a small section of the floor to gain access, then patch it.

Ive emailed Hymer in the hope they may assist with plans/schematics. Fingers crossed!

Cutting up your motorhome floor is the boggers way of fixing the problem. Unbuild it like it was made - correct the problem - then rebuild it again.

I had a leak under the kitchen cabinets that was also impossible to reach.
I disconnected it at the sink and cut the pipe where I could reach it inside a drawer unit.
I then pulled the pipe from under the cabinets and repaired it.
I fed it back under the cabinets and reconnect it at the new joint and at the sink - It could work for you?

Its detached at the most awkward place possible so I cant get anywhere near it. I couldn't even see ut with the camera, until I drilled an inspection hole. The other section of the pipe is stillattached to the grey waste tank & runs along with heater pipes, cables and the wastes fron the 2x shower drains in void. Therefore there aint room even for a ciggy paper. The top of the waste entry pipes are also mm from the bottom of the floor!!

I know that a complete bathroom out job is the proper way to do it, but that wont be happening with the age of the van & time/cost involved.

Not had the van long & seem to have inherited a few problems that were ignored by previous owners.

Its obviously been leaking onto the floor for a while and dripping out near to a hole for the toilet overflow pipe. Very small section of the floor is soft at this point, so that will need fixed too after the leaks sorted. Hopefully after cutting out this wet section there will be enough room to effect a repair.

Thanks for the advice so far everybody. I wont be beat!!

Could you run a new sink waste pipe into the grey tank leaving the old one in situ if necessary ?
Just read OP again, sounds like you may get leak from shower still.
Looks like shower tray needs to come out, probably time consuming but doable DIY.

i would look to see if you can drop straight down under the basin and run under the van with a length of flexible tube

@Mike Wazowski. Fortunately in my case, the shower try sits over the far end of the garage in our Hymer, and right underneath there is a metal plate with 4 x screws, which when removed, gives me access to the drain assembly.

Good luck trying to sort it out. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Don't know anything about hymer pipe sizes or fittings but is there any way of inserting one of slightly smaller diameter down inside the original? Can u get to the tank outlet end where u could use an electricians wire fishing kit to pull something through?

Thanks folks, really appreciate the help. Only fully confirmed the exact location of the leak last night, so will get in about it during daylight and see what can be done.

I had a leak from the bathroom sink waste in my 1999 B534. Fortunately I was able to access the offending part from the toilet cassette locker.
