Le Mans/Alencon aire wanted (1 Viewer)

We're in Ste Maure (about 30 miles from Poitiers.) at the moment having an easy day. Want to be at Pont de L'Arche late the day after tomorrow (will take bus to Rouen). Having problems finding pleasant aire on route between here and there. Any advice? Somewhere between Le Mans and Alencon perhaps?

A bit to the east of the road between Le Mans and Alencon is the small town of Mamers. There is a nice aire there which is not free, but is behind a security gate. Tickets (cannot remember the price but it's not a lot) are available from the municipal campsite just up the road or from the Office de Tourisme.

DIRECTIONS: Entering ALENCON from WEST on N12 & D112. Turn RIGHT onto D955 (AVE.DE KOUTIALA) & then TURN RIGHT again after 600M into RUE DE GUERAME. AIRE & CAMPSITE are on LEFT opposite cemetery.
SITE DESCRIPTION: Maintained, operated by & situated outside the Municipal Campsite; this Aire's services are only available during the campsite opening season. Parking is in a small gravel area bordered by high hedges & next to a minor road -- also close to a bread shop & epicerie (20m). Situated ½ km from the town. There is a Raclet borne with drainage grid -- a bit difficult to get to.
REVIEW
2007 Ever so quiet and near to a large park & the river. Very pleasant but the services are not open out of season. Quite a small parking area (4/5 vehicles) and hence access can be difficult if someone parks badly.

DIRECTIONS: Exit A28 @ Jcn 19 & take D311 EAST to MAMERS. Enter town at 2nd roundabout on D311, onto the D3 (RUE C.GRAINGER), then take 1st LEFT & then RIGHT into RUE DE LA PISCINE. AIRE is on LEFT.
SITE DESCRIPTION: Mamers Aire is in a medium sized gravel car park, near to the Municipal campsite, enclosed by a chain link fence in a compound with automatic gates (access code supplied by OT or campsite). Small trees in the compound provide a little shade. The Aire is next to a large park & some lakes, tennis courts are also adjacent -- it is approx 800m to the town centre shops. There is an Artisanal borne with a large platform drain.
REVIEW
2007 The Aire is not very attractive on first impressions, being in a slightly bare gravel car park, fenced & gated, but it is next to a very nice park & some large lakes (fishing possible) -- with good walks. Parking is also available (for a fee) in the Municipal Campsite -- 100yds up the road. The Aire is not all that close to the town shops. It is signposted in the town.

How about the fantastic Municipal site in Beaumont-sur-Sarthe?

Very cheap and but luxury for your money on the peaceful banks of the river.
