Greetings everyone,

We are searching for our first M.H. and we have singled out a particular layout that appeals to us based on our last touring van from some years ago. Our preference is for a front lounge with long opposing sofas which can be configured as two single beds or as a king size bed with an end kitchen.

The Covid 19 limitations have reduced the opportunity to just walk into dealerships and browse so we have been trying to identify suitable models from manufacturers websites followed by making appointments to view specific models.

To date we have identified 3 possibilities - Autotrail Imala 615, Autotrail Tracker EKS and Autosleepers Bourton. Each of these matches our layout criteria within our requirements for a sub 7.0m length and availability with automatic transmission.

If anyone knows of other models which match our criteria please let us know.

Many thanks, Rex

Autocruise Starlet2 on. Boxer chassis. Suits us governor 😀😀

Thanks very much to all of you, your help is greatly appreciated. I have looked at the models suggested on Autotrader and quickly realised I missed out a couple of key elements.

1 - Age, we are hoping to get something 2018 onward with low mileage. Young enough to still be under warranty and old enough to have had the initial build niggles sorted whilst someone else took care of the initial depreciation.

2 - Chassis cab coach-build rather than van conversion.

In respect of the hiring option suggested by Andy - whilst our boys were growing up we had a number of touring vans. Our last van had the layout I described above and we found it to be the best of all the tourers we had owned.

Thanks again everyone and stay safe.

I‘d agree with that we rented for a week and toured Northern England, once home we looked at options and choice what suited us then (well several years later) bought exactly that, it’s been great.

If I recall correctly, the AS Bourton is on a Merc chassis. If so I would choose that before anything on a Fiat.

Thanks Boris, Cherub & Two, your help is greatly appreciated.

As far as I can tell the Compass Avantgarde range isn't available with automatic transmission, (my good lady broke her ankle a couple of years ago and she finds a manual somewhat uncomfortable now.)

I totally agree with you "Two" after years of driving Jaguar I switched to the E class (the idea of a Jaguar hatchback just didn't feel right.) Switching to the E class was the best move I ever made. If I can find an AS Bourton at the right price (preferable with the V6 motor) then that will be my first choice.

Thanks again and stay safe.

Auto is the way to go. Gives you one less thing to think about when navigating strange places.
Bourton layout gives you the choice of twin singles (best) or double bed across.
Not a lot of storage but loads of open space.

We moved from a PVC to a rear lounge coach build. This wasn’t our first choice but after looking a few mid lounge motorhomes with side sofas making singles or doubles we were advised of a rear lounge motorhome with low mileage.
The rear lounge meant the kitchen and bathroom were at one side of the door and the lounge on the other side. The layout felt right for us and has proved to be very comfortable enabling us to be out all year during normal times.
Not having owned an automatic vehicle of any sort it wasn’t something that mattered to us. The Transit based manual is easy to drive for both of us.
