Looked at short trip to france use dfds normally ( 18 days ) return crossing dieppe to newhaven at 12:30 cost £242.50 look at dunkirk or calais to dover and see calais to dover at 13:55 for £73:00 cant argue with that so booked it just surprises me the price difference on dfds although ( kids holidays ) there is only a couple of sailings a day on newhaven dieppe route.

Looks like the 13:55 has sold out now as well glad i booked it

Dover is about 90 mls further down the road for me but certainly not gonna cost me £160+ in fuel

Dieppe to calais is about 100mls not a lot of fuel but i tend to wing it with no set plan but this time is on a time scale i'm thinking of heading down to seyssel slowly few days by the river and heading back again slowly but there is some nice aires going that way alongside rivers and canals and you can put awning up without compromising anyone else.

I think fuel is cheaper in belgium, luxembourg and germany so it does have additional advantages

Being over 60 we get the 20% discount on Newhaven/Dieppe if going down the west side of France saves us 400 miles on a round trip also living only 20 miles from Newhaven it's cheaper & easier to go via Newhaven. Our March/ April trip was £89 return normally pay about £150.
Current trip we used Dover as we needed to go to Belgium first.

Just west of you and you are right i'm about 25mls from newhaven most of the time it is cheaper from newhaven when factoring fuel in but the date i need is the 2nd of sep newhaven is over 3x the price.

With flexible destination it makes sense so i'm gonna go down seyssel (near annecy) which has some excellent scenery and places en route

Lovely there and always space to get in. Presume you know about Serrieres aire just up the road, in my view even nicer next to a lake (all free) and a little bar that has decent music on a weekend night. Ideal for hitting Chanaz and the canal through to Bourget

For £160.0 in fuel you can drive all the way from Calais and well into Spain in a 3.1/2 ton motorhome. A no brainier
