- Never leave a campsite with your clothes line tied to a lamp post.
The Plume of Feathers pub in Princetown will let you camp on their site (or in the car park for free) and is right in the town and central for walking. Most, if not all of the "proper" campsites are on the edge of the moor and would require a good hike to access the high moor. There is a large central private car park in Widecombe and I'm sure if you asked the lady in the gate kiosk she would let you camp now that the high holiday season is over.
