I am told they are useful for all kinds of things at home as well as in the MH. Checking tyres and wheel bearings were mentioned.

There are a lot on the market from a few pounds. Are they any good in the real world? Can anyone recommend one?

Thanks

Steve

We have a Fluke one at work, seems very good, but have just ordered 2 today from Maplins for £20 inc VAT

Great spec, we will see how it compares to the Fluke one costing over £100 last year

I had a Fluke too. I used it for balancing the central heating radiators then for checking the temperature of anything that stood still long enough.....
Great fun
Allan

Ps. Search for infrared thermometer.

No, still none the wiser. I will file this under Things I probably never need to know about.

Getting better
Used one all the time during working life in the HVAC industry. They are good and generally reliable. Must ay the ones I used were usually freebies supplied by the big equipment manufacturers .

So you can find the items, but don't know what you would use one for maybe?

It is probably more of an industrial tool, but things like radiators, it is hard to tell the exact temperature of them, these devices are just pointed at anything, they tell you the temperature of the surface

we use them to check liquids in tanks without needing to dip a thermometer in which can be difficult to reach

once you have one you will soon be pointing at everything you can, just because (y)
