We are looking for a book of maps of Spain and Portugal at about the same scale of our Michelin map of France (1:200,000). We have a map we bought in Spain in 2015 at a scale of 1:340,000, but it has fragile fold out maps which are now getting torn and tatty, as well as out of date. Looked on Amazon and the only one I can find is a Michelin one at 1:400,000, which is smaller scale than we have at the moment.

We do have a fitted sat nav (Garmin) in the motorhome and also on my phone (Sygic) and we have google maps etc on our phones and tablets as well. But we were both brought up with proper paper maps and there is nothing more satisfying than opening up a proper map book and looking at your surroundings. Many times we have done that and changed directions just to explore interesting looking places on the map.

So asking those who live in Spain or visit often if this is possible and if so what would we be looking for once in Spain please?

Many thanks for your help.

Try google search for Open Source Maps.
I use OsmAnd. Can be used on or offline.

I would aso love one but have looked in vain for ages. Somebody suggested they dont have anything like Ordance Survey, because Franco wouldnt allow it on security grounds

Michelin do or did a series of maps called (I think) Zoom Maps, only for certain areas though.

Searching their website might throw up something.

I have a fair old collection of maps (I love'em), the Michelin 1:400 000 are pretty good with reasonable details, I use them when plotting routes on my motorbike, but navigate with satnav.

Euromap do a 1:300 000 map, which is also not bad.

If you search this site for "walking maps portugal" ,the military maps for Portugal are available and are well detailed.

I'm sure we hit the same problem as you the last time we went away in 2019 and ended up with the same fold out road atlas you have, I've just checked and the only one that is larger scale is the AA one which was 1cm-3km but the last was the 10th edition published 2019 I think.

We have an older version of the second one and it's only 1cm=4km which is what the OP is referring to.

I looked on Dash4it, who stock a wide range of maps and atlases - they have a fair range of the Michelin Zoom maps, but as LesW said they only cover regions, so it would work out dear to get the lot! Scale seems to vary but some are 1:150000. Dash4it do currently have a flash sale on.

First time we went to Norway we lived in London and bought our maps from Stanfords and was amazed at what they had to offer. Plenty for Spain no doubt. Looking them up now, what do I see as their Map of the Month . . .

peterc10 I have the 2015 Michelin, spiral wire spine 1:400 000 AND Marco Polo 1:300 000 Spain & Portugal map books (+ Green Michelin guides and much more) that I was going to take to the 'Bring & Buy' on the 26th May but could get to other rallies I am attending.

I have decided that, as I will not be going abroad again, it's time for my vast collection of maps and guides to be sold (but not given away:giggle:)

Thanks but both too small scale.

I have found out that Marco Polo do a 1:300,000 but can't find any stock of new ones

Thanks but looking for road maps, as we do not do a lot of hiking

Do you mean Euro-Atlas? Found one of those but well out of date

Thanks. Found Stanfords via google, but either large scale fold out maps for small parts of country or small scale road atlas books.

It appears AA used to do a one at 1:300,000, but not now available new, and the ones on sale on flea bay are well out of date (one was year 2000!) and some at stupid prices.

Seems that what I am looking for is as rare as rocking horse poo!

Thanks. What year is the Marco Polo please?

You can buy a 2022 Marco Polo one on Amazon, just make sure you pick the right one as there are older versions too.

I have searched Amazon and all I can find is a second hand 2015 version or versions for the regions of Spain. Can you give me a link please Minxy

I read your post as you needing maps you can navigate and drive on roads, not walk, run cycle etc....may I suggest you look at maps produced by leading Iberian fuel companies...Repsol or Cepsa...the map detail is up to date and fairly accurate....

I'll have to try and remember how I found it as I saw it by accident due to it not having 'Marco Polo' in the title ... searching on Amazon is an absolute pain but if I find it again I'll let you know (I knew I should've put a link on earlier!)

Like you, we like the A3 michelin France book of maps. When going to Spain, i trawled Stanfords in Bristol for a similar scale but couldn’t find one. I did end up with the Michelin 1:400,000 and found it very good. I dislike navigating from the big fold out maps particularly as i get shouted out should I happen to fold it “the wrong way” in order to make it usable on the move. The ring binder style that I can fold back under itself suits me.

We use the 2021 Tourist and Motoring Atlas Spain & Portugal. Ring bound atlas. 250 pages. 1/200,000 scale.
£11.99 from:

The link you posted is for the Michelin atlas of France, not Spain & Portugal. Michelin do a Spain and Portugal atlas but only at 1:400,000. I want one at a larger scale

I have the above map. Many moons ago it contained a two page map of the departments and major roads which was good for planning/trunk road travel but sadly not in current versions.
