We have a 8.7m tag axle and am thinking seriously or towing a 4m trailer which will contain a large scooter. Clearly now in the region of 13m in overall length I appreciate I am an even larger vehicle. We have used a few Aires and German stellpazas and not really noticed other large vans with trailers. I am asking any other owners of large motorhomes that tow a trailer of any experiences in using the aires or other parking areas being so large. I can obviously see that small locations are going to be difficult but I am trying to get a feel as to how pulling the trailer impacts on easy travel.

Towed a box trailer with an 11mt RV.. no major issues other than you mentioned.. went round Morocco with it .. later on I traded it up to a twin axle.. on busy aires it was tight and had to be unhitched and parked separately.

I would say make sure you aren't exceeding your gross train weight, that sounds like a big trailer!

Thanks Jim, thats what I had in mind regarding unhitching. Do you have any knowledge where other motorhomers then give you trouble for taking up space

I have been on a Spanish aire and saw the police telling people to move trailers and tow cars out of motorhome bays , if they all fitted in the one bay it was ok.

You will just have to choose what aires you use.

We tow with our Kon Tiki, never had a problem on any site in UK or France. Spent a month touring France this July, and visited numerous sites, without any complications.
If you would like any more info then send me a private message PJG.

Had the 3 litre Iveco re-mapped to 200bhp for low end torque, and it tows superbly and still returns about 23-26mpg.

With our Isuzu we towed a Discovery 1 on a trailer from North East Scotland down to Plymouth for a Discovery meet, then went on to Lands End, and back home.

Unable to show photo, but you can find it on my website below, in photos and then click on the Isuzu pictures.

We had the same issue of thought regarding our MH 8.73 long AutoTrail Tag. I just didn't want to tow a trailer with a Frame. So we have just extended our van by 1 metre and carrying our Scooter instead... It's well within it's carrying limit and works fine. We are booked up for France on the 21st October till the 30th... A 4 Metre trailer is very long !!

I'll post up a pic of our trailer for your info...

About the only place we had a very minor issue was at Gravelines .. But as it was March and pretty empty we just parked length ways !

Both the Dieppe aires have notices banning trailers. However, it is possible to reverse a trailer on to some grass at some emplacements, but don't remember anything long enough for more than about 10 or 11 metres total length.
