Year 3 of ownership !
£300 for entry level laptop, £50 extra for one of those digital ( freeview ) dvt digital tv kit and a little aerial. Could also play games, play music, DVD's etc.

Does anybody have experiance using these products over lcd tv's with freeview inside ?

Really torn between the two products at the moment as 15" tv with freeview £150- £200 plus £50 -£80 for roof areial = £280 approx

We used to have a boat and used a laptop setup as described. It was awful but I would temper that by adding that the poor reception was almost certainly down to the aerial (an omnidirectional Status 315) which would certainly work better on top of a motorhome than on top of a boat at a height of approx 4-5 feet.

Get a directional aerial and you would get better reception. The variety of uses a laptop can provide can make them attractive especially as you can also browse motorhomefun whilst away.

But don't forget that a laptop screen, especially a budget one, will be much smaller than an LCD TV.

We thought about doing the same, tried it and found it to be a lot of hassel setting it all up. Cabels every where. Now we have a chepo 15" LCD which is wired up all the time, no hassel just switch it on. We still take the lap top for the kids though but found it too much bother to use it as a Tv as well.

 I have the USB Freeview (HDTV ready) Digital TV (which also works in Spain) and also a PCMCIA Card Analogue. They both work well with a decent aerial. :winky:

Since before Motorhomefun
get a cheapo TV.

Buy a maxview pole or any pole and stick a maxview or household aerial on it.

Cheapest system works in most places in UK.
