since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Can anyone help with a laptop fan problem?
The fan starts when I switch the laptop on & runs for a few seconds as normal but then goes off & refuses to work again until the computer is re started.
The result is that it overheats & shuts down.
Is there a setting or something to control the fan?

many many years! since I was a kid
there is a temperature sensor on the board. sounds like its failed. changing means dismantling the laptop very carefully to install a replacement. beyond the scope of the average diy tinkerer

most manufacturers have appointed/qualified repair centres and cost is not always that bad. wouldnt cost to get a quote and weigh that up against a replacement laptop as costs have dropped

the above presumes that the laptop is beyond its warranty period
