Hi I'm looking for suggestions regarding routes from Calais to Lake Garda with or without tolls. Not in a hurry to get there just wish to amble down and meet up with C.C.C. tour of the west coast. Thanks for any advice.

We always take the direct route - motorways to Chamonix, Mont Blanc tunnel and motorways in Italy.

Yes I'm well aware that there are cheaper ways to get there but we love Chamonix so always make that a stop off for a couple of days.

We only usually drive for four hours a day or so so it's usually one stop over on the way to Chamonix, stop there and then it's about 4 hours or so from there to Garda.

If you wanted to do longer drives then you could do it easily with one stop or probably even non stop if you really wanted to.

Our very first trip to Italy we did this, parked up, were well pleased with riding there when we met a bunch of Norwegians who had also biked it there.

We've been back many times by bike and now by MH, it's that kind of place. No-one should be allowed to die before going up the Aiuile du Midi and maybe the vanishing glacier.
