We decide to visit Lake Garda end of May 2012 and chose to stay at Camping Fontanelle, Moniga del Garda and looking back, this was not the best choice we made. The campsite was ok and the facilities were fine. However, the pitches were quite small and we were sort of crammed in with other campers. I would not want to be here at the height of the season. Our pitch was on the edge of the lake and a short walk to the nearest port/resort. What we didn't know was the lake ferries were not operating at that time of the year so were a bit stuck for transport around the lake. Lake Garda itself is a fine resort and if we were to go back we would definitely stay nearer or in Desenzano del Garda, a place we visited and liked very much.
Our stay was very relaxing and the days were very warm and so our overall experience was quite good. Surprisingly, we found we could do a return trip to Venice by train for a tenth of the price we would expect to pay in the UK. Had I known this upfront we would have based ourselves in Desenzano del Garda, which has good transport links including the train station is and this would enabled us to visit a few Italian city's by train. Venice is stunning, we were there many, many years ago and I was looking forward to noticing the difference from then to now and the difference was the amount of tourist's compared to my last visit, and how commercialized it had become. The place was absolutly rammed with people and we were more or less forced to get out of the main streets just to make headway. There are still some secluded gem's off the beaten track and it's still a great place to visit and explore. If we were to come again, we would arrive after 5 p.m. as most of the day visitors will have returned to the boats, trains and planes that bring them in on as daily basis. Venice is wonderful and now fully commercialized, so bring plenty of money.

Fornella on a 'super pitch' is wonderful, 120 square metres in a lovely olive grove. Use the little road train in summer to get to ferry and small local towns. Just spent 2 months there.

We arrived in Venice this morning it's bloody scorching.
Nice little campsite 1o k from Venice bus stops at gate €2.60 each return.:)
Going in tomorrow see if we can last a day without getting robbed  No chance eh !!!
Black economy thriving in Italy, accept for fuel we've not been able to use our cards for anything under €50 cash only and no receipts. ;)

Any chance of sharing the name of the campsite and GPS as we would like to visit Venice on our way back from Croatia early next week? If you are intending coming through to Croatia the rain here has hardly stopped for the past 10 days. Hopefully the weather when we arrive will be good - we deserve some!
Thank you

We like Camping Marina Di Venezia. Not cheap but great spot on lido of Jessolo. If u have a dog it is dog heaven as u can take the dog on the beaches. You can walk thru the sand dunes and sit at a bar at the nautical entrance to Venice and watch the Cruise ships entering Venice at close quarters. Easy water ferry into Venice about 20 mins and beautiful.
