We had heard a lot about Lake Bled and as it was only 20 minutes from the motorway on our way down to Croatia (May 2014), so we decided to visit. We spent 6 days there and loved it. It is so relaxing. The campsite (Camping Bled) is at the edge of the lake with a mini-market, bar and restaurant immediately outside the campsite. You can walk around the lake in about 2 hours. There is a cycling track and tourist train that goes around the lake. Plenty of restaurants and bars to visit on your walks.

What was the drive like to get there ? Always fancied it, however, I'm not good on narrow, windy roads with big drops.

Very straight forward. We came from Vienna but either way (even if you come via Germany) ended up on the A2 Motorway (Vignette required for Austria & Slovenia, both cheap as chips) and then a very short drive to the lake. the Motorways are good and the short drive to the Lake does not present any difficulties. No drops to worry about and the narrowest road is the one round the lake to the campsite which is negotiated by large buses and coaches so is easy squeezy for a motorhome.

Beware though-if you're over 3.5t it may cost as much as 75-100 euros to cross Austria using a GO-BOX, plus toll charges for any tunnels. Those "chips" may not be so cheap if you have a biggish vehicle

Well thanx so much for that, really expected lots of mountainous roads. Will be giving that a go
