Hi guys, we are looking to spend a week in June at La Rochelle and would really love to take our dog Oscar, in fact won't travel without him. Have tried searching on the forums but can't find much. Is this area suitable? Restaurants, beaches etc. Any help / recommendations would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest Ile de Re, we haven't taken the dog when we've been before , loads of beaches some quite rugged ,but wide variety of towns & landscape with plenty of places to eat or visit ,not like La Rochelle sort of major town / city /port.

Thanks for your suggestion, we are open to any nice areas easily reached within a week, although we actually have nine days, really looking for plenty of life, sea food restaurants etc, thinking maybe a stop at Le Touquet on route and onwards to further costal areas.

Quick research on Ile de Re and it looks beautiful, exactly the kind of place I had in mind, thanks again!

We were in the area last month - used the Park & Ride Jean Moulin, where there's an option to camp overnight.

It was fine to take the dog on the Park & Ride bus into La Rochelle (his first ever bus trip!), and we ate outside at a bistro with no problem - a waitress even brought a bowl of water (which the dog knocked over with his paw - a favourite party trick of his!).

And here he is at La Rochelle enjoying the view!

Not sure that the beaches there were dog-friendly, but we had a nice walk around the city walls.
