I priced up a replacement Agilis CP tyre and KF were cheapest. Do I need to get a metal valve to give them for fitting and if so where from please ?

I'd certainly check it out with the depot where they are going to be fitted before you go, or speak to the 'dispatch' team if its going to be a mobile fitter.

If you already have metal valves in good condition then just replace the core. It’s only the core and the rubber sealing washer that may need changing occasionally.
Otherwise get some off eBay like these.

What's this new obsession with metal valves ?

If others were dangerous, they'd e illegal.

I've no idea if I have metal valves or even the make of my tyres - what's so special ?

I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of commercial vehicle owners/drivers don't know either.......... and they do a lot more miles than any of us..............

Ask any of them if they have rubber or metal valves !.............

No wonder we pay more for everything............. we think we are 'special'............

............well not me(y)

Quite agree with the above , the only vehicles I've driven that had metal valve stems were heavy trucks where the pressure was 125lb most van run about 45 to 60lb. Seeing as motorhomes get very light use compared to the same base vehicle used for commercial use. Another difference is that motor homes are sometimes parked in storage for 3 months witch does tyres no good at all

I am over 70 years old and I have been driving since I was 18 and I have never ever known the dates of manufacture of any of my tyres...

In fact, like motorhome pay loads and habitation checks, I was never aware of them until MotorHome Fun.

Never failed an MOT on out of date tyres either.

Lucky or what!

Halfords just as bad, on my MOT they advisories as rust on handbrake cable, and exhaust. I asked if needed changing ? oh yes,
Is the exhaust blowing ? no
Is the handbrake cable frayed ? no

I took van to VW for other work and asked about the advisories, they said don't be daft, nothing wrong.
And did you report the issue to VOSA ( or what ever it is called this week ) ??
If no, you have actively encouraged them ( Halfords or Kwik Fit or any other scamming scum ) to continue trying to steal peoples money

BUT I did have troubles with my old tyres if you remember one of our summer trips in France. I had (well so we thought), tyres in good condition, when I had that muti punctures problem.... back to that time on here

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...g-adventure-starts-for-me-today.113075/page-6

I for sure will always look at the date of the make which is on the side of tyres. Fortunately the trip was soooo nice , I forgot all about the scary moment when I felt I had no more control on the steering wheel

For information only
Commonly used rubber and called long and short valves have a maximum pressure rating of 65 lb
there are 3 other rubber sizes but still with a max of 65lbs.
The length difference is generally short for alloy wheels and long for steel wheels with hub caps or trims
BUT There are only two types of inserts, Short with rubber seals and long with a spring visible
short good for 300lbs and the long insert with spring 2000lb yes 2000
It should be remembered tyres are only one of many uses for these valve inserts

Has ANY tyre or valve manufacturer actually said that they are dangerous after certain time.
Not just recommendation, which could just be to boost sales

Hi !... As far as I am concerned I do not need them to tell me. I had the scary proof of it.

As mentioned previously, Michelin are saying to check them more regularly after they are 5 year old, they are not saying replace them.

Yes you certainly can, but you would make yourself look very foolish in this instance
Because there are many questions to be asked

Yes you could (should ) but too much time has passed.. You should have gone straight to another MOT station

Still worth raising as it
A) puts the thieving gits on the VOSA radar ( again )
B) at least adds to the file on the buggers

Well I'm of the safer to change school after about 5 years, they may well be fine but they've sat around for too long in their 6 year life and I'm not risking a 5000 mile trip to Norway when I would be changing them sooner or later anyway.

This is really an advert, if anyone wants 5 Michelin Agilis 215/70/R15 - 109Q 'Camping' tyres with 5700 miles on the clock, 5mm front and 6mm+ on the rear and (unused spare) then please make me an offer. :)

That's for someone else to determine.
You should state that you think that you think they're unsafe in your sales pitch. How would you feel if they had an accident first day?

You state openly on a public forum that you think they're unsafe, but quite happy to sell to some unsuspecting victim :(
