MH
Don’t own one yet
If you had 40k to spend on a MH for a family of 4. What would you get and why?

One with 4 belted seats! As loads don’t have.... and second hand Hymer ..

At 40k probably this with some change, choice would be different at 50k

No idea, I'd have to research for a few hours and I'm nowhere near that bored :ROFLMAO:

Yes to 4 belted seats, and then the payload to carry those 2 extra people along with all their clobber but after that I think it's up to you how you want to use the van and what you want to do, do you need to take bikes? would you be happy with these outside or would you want a garage, the Burster above looks OK but where is the storage space?

Martin

Full drawers in kitchen, 1 lower cupboard, 2 overhead

3 overhead in lounge and maybe under seat storage

Full height wardrobe next to bunks and full height shelved cupboard opposite

Storage shelves in bathroom plus under sink cabinet

Large garage under bottom bunk adjustable when travelling

Apart from that who knows!

(y) I missed the bottom bunk lifting bit so yes a decent option.

Instant responses, impressive forum.

That Burstner is interesting, it’s certainly opened my search filters.

I was told not to rule out something like this;

4 seat belts, bunks, suspect it’s fairly economical I see their point.

Minefield!!

Feel free to post some links on what you would get :)

Personally I can’t see that working with a family of four.

Would the therefore say a 4 berth camper conversion (Ducato, Relay, Boxer, Sprinter, Crafter) would not suit a family of 4? Better off getting a MH?

For us even as a couple a PVC or camper van would be too small but it suits others so is impossible to say.

Have to agree with @BreweryDave and say that, after more than 50 years of caravanning, motorhoming and RVing, if I had £40K cash I would not spend it on any of them!

Hymer 544 for £20k (pre 2006) and spend the rest on other holidays.

Just curious of people’s opinions at this stage. The 4 seat belt is a great shout and the Burstner link posted above make sense - king bed, two singles and storage. Yet to find a better alternative.

if your drivings licence allows get a 6-7.5 ton truck and convert to suit your self . these days nice double cab trucks are common . gives loads of carrying capacity for 4 . plus space for bikes , washing machine ,shower, dare say you might only spend half that amount and so have enough to have a real break away and get full use of it.
best not waste money on a factory conversion . much better doing it yourself .

How old are the children?

Depends on family demography.............
probably a 22k caravan with a 18k towcar

Don't shoot

I would find a beautiful part of the country which was relatively secluded and close'ish to the sea and buy a 6-berth residential caravan.

Just saying!
And pay five grand a year just for the privilege.

My advice is watch the weight and then check the layout for four seatbelts. If you can go for something over 3,500 kgs GVW. Four people in a panel van conversion on a cold wet day is a recipe for disaster, great for two but four? Extra clothes etc. add to the weight. Think how you may wish to use it. Campsites all the time, no need to carry water and extra batteries etc. otherwise your payload is eroded again to support your style of camping. Remember your insurance could soon be invalidated if found to be over the plated GVW.
