Be just our luck to drive under one of the 2.
We're 9' 6" so there wouldn't be much to spare, we might have to let the tyres down....:roflmto::roflmto::roflmto::roflmto:and keep a low profile

You are so right about knowing your height in feet and inches as well as metres.
We nearly got caught out in Rudishiem when we turned a corner to the camp site only to be confronted with a low bridge showing the height in metres. We looked at each other and said what the hell is that in feet and inches? a takes a long time for us oldies to convert in our heads. As it was it was quite obvious that we wouldn't get under it so we took another route.

Hi Guys.
Last year I had to deliver 6 trailers to Birmingham from Stoke on Trent.
They were 16ft 10 inch on a full size tractor unit such as the one that I drive. :Eeek:
They were built for low profile wheels & tyres which would bring them under 16ft.:thumb:
I could not go down the motorway as they would have hit the bridges, so the abnormal road division of the police gave me a convoy exceptional route via little roads and down between terraced houses and it took over 3 hours to deliver each trailer.
On the first delivery, the trailer hit a tree and it had to be returned for a small repair.
After that one I then knew where all the trees were:ROFLMAO:
Another point to watch out for, is that very often a bridge may tapper downwards towards the outside and may be less than indicated:Eeek:
Just take care but know your vehicle height:thumb:

We made some for Salvesen and they had low bridge warning equipment fitted.
As I was not involved I did not rake much notice of them but it was electronic and I think it was not sensor based but maybe gps equipment.

The low bridges and Forcourt canopies are obviously more of a problem for you R V owners.
I would immagine that with air con or top boxes fitted that they must be near to 14 ft.

The AA Close-up Truckers Atlas Britain

It weighs an absolute ton........ it is A2 in size so very awkward to hide away but as a route planner, it is fabulous!!!!!!

It covers 4,700 low bridge heights and 1,700 narrow and weak bridges - it shows 230 proper truckstops and cafes and shows all the fixed camera locations. Ultra large scale at 1½ miles to the inch - even I can read it without difficulty.

Costs £20 but worth every penny for a 14 ton RV'er (the RV is pretty heavy too!):thumb:

One thing to take into account when reading forecourt canopy heights - sometimes the floor is uneven and sometimes the signs do not take into account light fittings - so don't take too much notice of the signage - leave yourself at least three inches spare!!!!

When abroad I have seen many forecourt canopies without any height indication.
I marked one of those telescopic poles sold for flying flags etc with red tape at the max height I can get under. It is then a simple job to walk under the canopy & check it, mind you you will get some funny looks:ROFLMAO: but better than a dented roof:Eeek:

There is a free Low Bridge PoI set available for download from Link Removed.

I typed up our vehicle height, weight and length, printed it as A5 size and laminated it. We clip the sheet on the dash using the built-in "clipboard".

Hi Graham, do you know how to get this to work on other systems?

Ralph

I have an Acer n35 PDA running Destinator

Ralph

Hello Ralph,

There is a program called POIConvertor which I found when creating my own PoIs. There is a link to it on my download page Here.

I've just had a look and it appears that it will convert from other formats into the .csv format required by Destinator.

It's a pretty simple download, just a matter of following the instructions. Then you just read the source file and save it in the appropriate format for copying to yout device.

I've typed our height, length and width in feet and inches and metric. Prnted it out as a mirror image - laminated it and blue tacked it to the dashboard. It then shows up at the bottom of the windscreen the correct way round.

It's always handy and easy to see in those last minute "Oh my God will we get through/under that" moments!!:ROFLMAO:

I have just purchased the Low Bridge warning POIs for UK from http://www.lowbridges.com/?gclid=CJ-Wscv5144CFShWEgodWmVslQ

On the map it shows the bridge height, you can set an audible alarm for all the bridge heights that would be too low for your motorhome. :thumb:

If your SatNav doesn't use ov2 files they can be converted into CSV here
http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com/index.php

I am more than happy to share this with anyone who wants it, just pm or email for the zip file, I don't want to post on a public forum.

Off to work now ..
