On and off for many years.
One of my clients had one, fitted by motobility, and hated it. My colleague removed it for her and put it back when it was time to change the car. She asked for it not to be fitted on the replacement car.

I always thought they were a bit dangerous.

I have and put it on after surgery causing me 30% less use of my right arm, love it.
Used to have one on my truck years ago! However have to be used with care as I know someone who had the wheel hit a piece of wood which suddenly spun the steering wheel, knob hit him under the forearm and he slightly paralysed his arm.
Used carefully an asset for me though.
No problem leaving it on for 2 yearly French MOT. (y)

I use one on some vans if they are too heavy to move about in tight spaces. the one i use can be swivelled out of the way when not being used . similar to this one, but a quality leather version

Put one on a few weeks ago, just for manoeuvring in tight places. Placed it in the 12 o'clock position, and on the inside of the wheel, so that it dosent get in the way during normal driving. Jury still out, but it's very handy for reversing onto pitches. :D

Is 'Steering wheel knob' slang for a bad driver?

wheel spinners, useful on fork lift trucks, dumper trucks etc.. ie. vehicles with low geared steering.. otherwise, unless disabled, why would you need one with a modern van that has high geared power steering ?

10 years m/h, plus 15 years caravan......
I have a steering wheel knob on my car from when I used to tow a caravan, I use it all the time as I find it so much easier. I am going to put one on my motor home as soon as I get a chance.
Hope this is helpful.

.... why would you need one with a modern van that has high geared power steering ?
You probably wouldn't, but unfortunately the current Fiat Ducato has a horribly low geared steering rack. The result is over-light steering that takes an age to have much effect.

I expect it's so you can sneeze in perfect safety.

I've driven a variety of vehicles with & without spinners fitted. Overall, I'm not keep on them for road use, but since I got this current van, I've been seriously temped by the idea.

I have one on my Iveco Daily camper and find it very useful when manouvering and negotiating roundabouts. I ftted it to the wheel at about the 11 o clock position (I'm left handed) so in general driving it doesn't get in the way but when serious wheel twirling is required its easily to hand and I find it a real asset.

It's exactly because of power steering that a knob is so easy to use.

I have done a lot of agency hgv driving over the years so have driven a lot of trucks used by others and in my opinion these things just get in the way. Not needed, learn to reverse using your mirrors then you don't need to swivel and you can use both arms on the wheel.Only needed if you have disability.

When my knob arrives I'll give it some stick and be completely honest in my appraisal (y) It cost peanuts so no big deal if I don't embrace it. It can always go in quick shot sales for a tenner

Hi, I use one on the M/H but then I only have one arm, so find it very good whilst manoevering, I don't use one on the car though, as the steering is much lighter and don't feel the need.
Cheers, Dave(y)

For sale: one "8 ball" steering wheel knob. Mint condition cos I only used it once. Thought it would be useful. It wasn't.

I'm not selling this very well, am I?
