Nice Berlineta. Early ones were built on BL running gear if I remember right. Have seen a few nice V8 models about recently.
Originals were on Marina's (Oh how I laughed) but they still take some beating in trials.
Mine is a Sportster 2.8 E36 BMW

A Lomax based on a Citreon 2CV, used every day for going to work. Sold it in 1999, but now wished I had kept it.
I thought only vegetarian bearded social workers bought Citroen 2 CV's, or is that just an unfair stereotype rooted in anti-socialist dogma. Actually ignore this, lets not have a lovely thread about gorgeous cars high jacked into another political thread!:D:whistle:

Are beach buggy kits still available, or something like the Mini-Moke/Citroen Mehari? I've always thought one would make an ideal summer toad.

Malcolm
Yes but you don't want to know the prices.:) Plenty of Meharis appear around here spring onwards .There are Mokes around but few & far between.

What really surprises me is that nobody, and I might be wrong, has produced a "kit car" Motorhome, now there's an idea!

I meant a whole monocoque "capsule" to be attached to a suitable chassis Terry, seems like a good idea to me, but the I suppose that's what the manufacturers do anyway ain't it?

For obvious reasons the 2CV kits such as the Lomax are very popular with the French. In recent years many have been sold to French customers, who have been paying what we in the UK would consider over the odds prices. The French do have an affinity with quirky cars and love the 3 wheeled variety. It just seems odd to me that we Brits seemed to be the only ones in Europe that took to building these specials. the craze started in earnest in the UK during the 50s with the Ford sidevalve specials and carried on into the 80s. There was of course many specials built on the Austin 7 chassis before that. There does seem to be a revival in recent years with copies of just about every exotic car ever built from Cobras to Lamborghini's.
Hi ya
Had a three wheel Lomax from eBay.
Used for about a year and then sold it 3 years ago.
You guessed it, a French man bought it and exported it to France

My mate has a Cobra lookalike ish- SSC STYLESS RT New RAW turned mr2 engine (£3500)Stainless exhaust -above 9k in bills -rolling chassis needs Paint and body fixing on -all wiring in place -he will take £6500 for it,he has no room /in the way --He paints cars for a living so if someone came up with a good offer he may well get motivated to complete the build but if that happened I think he would want near to 14 k completed (cannot pin him down but he hinted at that figure )

This is what am looking at. The main problem is that Newton Abbot is a hell of a long way to drive a kit with no heater back to Liverpool.

There's a thread on a car forum about people who can always find an excuse not to go & get something . Called " If only you were nearer "
It looks quite tidy that, I could go for that .

Its not the going that concerns me. Have travelled all over Europe buying motorhomes I wanted. Its the driving back 300 miles in the UK with no roof or heater (n).

I meant one that might actually be comfortable and didn't look like in had been designed by a Labrador!

Living the dream.
I've owned two beach buggies, a lwb and a swb. The cost of buying a good chassis/floor pan and a kit would be pretty high. A scrap one would be better priced but you need a good floor pan.

I bought a SWB beach buggy but had to
back out of the deal when I checked it out and found you need an SVA inspection after you have cut a chassis

Most beach buggies are SWB but few are SVA'd

This was my little kit car beauty, different number plate but same colour. Found out only very recently that it won the Scottish Hillclimb championship in the late 70's, got exported to the states where it had a fairly successful racing career and still exists, a guy in Washington State has just bought it and is rebuilding it... Went like a bat out of hell and would out corner mini coopers, I always chickened out before it did.. Give my eye teeth to have it back even if I would have to crawl in and out of the door:LOL::LOL:

Never owned one but when I left school I worked for Dutton as a fibreglass laminator. Years after a guy I worked for had a Ferrari Daytona kit we did some work on but he sold it when offers a silly profit on it. I was a little bit gutted as he always loaned me his cars/toys so never got to drive it
