We have a pair of birds trying to get into our house through the window. They have been flying between the bars and the glass and pecking in flight! They first tried the spare room window so we closed the blind. They then moved on to the living room windows. Were not prepared to close those blinds and sit in the dark. We've hung bits of material up but that's not stopping them. Any idea why? and how to stop them.

Your great tits :xeek: sorry but thit's what these birds are - could be finding insects on the glass, or following their own reflections, or just not seeing the glass because it's too clean or the low sun is camouflaging it. My guess though, as you say they're pecking, would be the insects.
Put up a model of a predator bird or cut out an outline of one and put it in the window.

Thanks Wendy, that's our next job, but it will have to be on all of them!!! Martin's just cleaned the windows so he either made a bad job or they're not after bugs. It's quite distressing listening to the constant tapping, it can't be doing them any good.

I wouldn't worry too much, they'll be fine, of course another alternative is to put an irresistible feeding station nearby. ..

As post #5.
But when they attack they crap! The idea is to coat your enemies feathers in crap, thus your enemy loses the natural water proofing and insulation in their feathers, and your enemy dies of hyperthermia.

Some times it happens that they see themselves in a car door mirror, it leaves the door of your car in one hell of a mess. Ned our resident Blackbird did the same kind of a thing to our car last year.

You could put some mesh over the bars to prevent them flying between them and the window ...

Don't know anything about the birds but please can Martin come and clean my windows?
